We wanted something to do on this rainy day. The Maine State Museum did not disappoint. Well stocked museum full of Maine's artifacts. Taxidermy was pretty incredible to see. Price was so reasonable and we stayed a couple of hours just mesmerized by everything. Highly recommend on a rainy day!

We went for a quick visit to see the history of Maine at this tidy little museum near the state capital building. We were there for two hours and found it informative, nostalgic and educational, well worth the stop.

Located right across the parking lot from the state capitol building, the museum had many interesting areas/displays. Not knowing anything about Maine or its history, the museum covered many different aspects of the state's development. The museum itself is 3-4 stories, with one of the displays impressively covering all floors!

The state museum in Augusta, Maine is brilliant. It is packed with exhibits which tell you everything you need to know about Maine.
The gift shop is excellent too.
Entrance price is $3 and seniors $2 - really good value.
Not to be missed if you are in Augusta.

You really get the feeling for the historical, economic and resource rich state of Maine. Lots of things to look at from First Nation artifacts to gems and granite. Make sure you discover all floors of displays. Well done. Give yourself a couple of hours to see it all.

We arrived at 4:00 pm on a Friday and made the best of our hour in the museum which closes at 5:00. Very nice exhibits with sections dedicated to agriculture, WWI, home life, industry, nature, Native American, and geology. Exhibits are spread out on 4 floors. Our kids, 12 and 14, were kept engaged by the displays. Cost of admission was a good value, even if only for an hour. Would suggest allowing 2 hours. Was nice to walk to the State Building next door. There are restrooms and a small gift shop. Free parking in a lot next to the museum, just watch for some areas that are permit parking. Before arriving, we had a nice lunch just a few minutes away at Cushnoc Brewery.

The Maine State Museum is definitely worth a visit! Engaging exhibits offer learning experiences for young and old alike. It's a great place in which to fill a few hours and the price of admission is extremely easy on the pocketbook!

The weather was not good for water related activities, so we went to Augusta to the state museum. It is an interesting building with much about Maine’s history, geology, animals, industrial past, and its people. It is a good place to bring family.
