My daughter and I visited Bates College (Lewiston) and stayed at the Munroe Inn (Auburn - twin city). Because we were visiting after Columbus Day, we had the place to ourselves - it was incredibly peaceful. We stayed in the Maria Suite which is quite a large room. The bed was very comfortable, the room and bathroom quite spacious, the decor eclectic. There was a parking space next to the inn. A grocery store is within walking distance. Bates is about a 8-10 minute drive away.
Best of all was Olga's fantastic breakfast. We had delicious greek yogurt and homemade jam, a homemade pastry, eggs scrambled with bok choy and fresh tomatoes (as Olga said, Asian style), fresh apple cider with ginger, and French-pressed coffee.
Olga also kindly washed my jeans and shirt (I had spilled Thai sauce on them the night before.) I was very grateful for her extra help.
My original plan was to stay one night at the Inn and then the second night in Portland to catch a 6AM flight, but the Portland hotel options were not appealing in comparison to the tranquility of the Munroe Inn. We opted to stay a second night and leave early from the Inn. (Note - best to leave by 4AM to catch a 6AM flight in Portland.)
If my daughter ends up going to Bates, I'm sure the Munroe Inn will be our go-to when visiting her. Thank you Olga for such a pleasant stay!
