Stopped here on the way from NOLA to Houston. the self guide tour was interesting, but the gem is the gift shop. we were there for over an hour. if you are in the vicinity, it is worth the stop. Also, visit the Jungle Gardens while you are there.

“Nice way to spend an hour or so”
Reviewed December 8, 2012 via mobile

I was in Lafayette for a day and a friend suggested we drive out to Avery Island and tour the Tabasco plant. The "tour" starts with a small introduction by a guide and then a 10 minute video on the history and the production of the product. The it's off on a self guided tour of the assembly line - basically a walk down a hallway overlooking the bottling.

The Tabasco store is an adventure unto itself. There are hundreds of things to look at- from books to clothing to cookware, etc. You can also sample all of the current Tabasco line of sauces. We also tasted Tabasco chili, jalapeño ice cream, and (my favorite) raspberry chipotle ice cream. The stare employees are incredibly friendly.

Make sure you try the Tabasco chocolate. It was definitely not what I expected!

All in all, a nice way to spend a few hours.

“kinda neat...but just ok”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

Was working a few hours away and had a little time off so we went to Avery Island to check out the Tabasco tour. The tour starts with a guide telling you with a few facts about the production of the famous sauce. After that you get seated in a room and watch what amounts to a fifteen minute commercial for Tabasco. In this video they show you the mixing, salting, fermenting of the peppers. After the video you walk past the bottle filling line and watch through glass the labeling machines. After that its over. You never get to see the mashing of peppers, the barrels, the salting or any other part of the process. The guide was nice enough. The gift shop is stocked with nick knacks. I would have liked to see a lot m ore of the facility. They did say in a couple years they will have a new tour where more of the process is shown. For now though, its just OK.

Long drive from NOLA. But well done tour. We were there on a Sunday so the machines weren't running. But the center and video were nice. Store is nice and we bought a lot of stocking stuffers for the holiday.. Fun activity.

“Good attraction”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

For a couple of "Brits" abroad we really enjoyed this attraction.
We has no idea how Tabasco was made,so this was an education for us. It was a short tour and we did spend a while looking round the well stocked gift shop. If you are on vacation from another country and this area is all new to you think about going to this attraction -as well as Bird Jungle.
