It looked great from the outside, but when we got into the elevator with no air conditioning working and then stepped into the upstairs hallway, we began to sense that we were in for a bad time. We would not have even tried to stay there if anything else was available in Alexandria that had even the basic features we were needing. My disabled wife had trouble with her breathing after just a few minutes in our room. We were allowed to visit a different room, but it had the same problem. We tried to stick it out simply because nothing else was available, but, due to my wife's steadily worsening breathing problem, we finally had to leave around 11PM the first night and travel almost 2 hours to Natchez MS to find suitable lodging. To make matters worse, we had reserved it via telephone for two nights, so we were still charged for both nights!!!! The acrid odors were possibly coming from new carpet, paint, glue, or something
that caused my wife to have trouble with her breathing. These odors were very strong, and I did not like them, but we were trying to
"tough it out" due to a lack of local alternatives. We were there as vendors in the Louisiana Rural Water Association convention. The manager claimed that we were not due any credit because we waited two hours after they had shown us an alternative room (no better than the one we were in) to finally decide to leave. My wife's breathing problem went away after leaving.
