“very impressed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2010

I have been to a lot of zoos, and I was not expecting much of this small-town zoo. But I was actually very impressed. It was beautifully landscaped with lots of waterfalls and fountains, and lots of shade, very important in Louisiana. The staff was friendly, and most of the animals seem perfectly happy. The exhibits are well designed, with lots of windows for viewing animals underwater and board walks for overhead viewing. All of the cat exhibits had glass panes for face-to-face encounters. We had a thrilling encounter with a huge, gorgeous white tiger. The lion exhibit was very unique, with a safari tent viewing area and a jeep in the exhibit. The jaguar exhibit was very overgrown, but that is excellent for a jungle cat. And we really enjoyed the acadian architecture in the Louisiana area. They do not yet have giraffes, elephants, or zebras, but I hear it's in the works. They are also going to have a boat ride. It is definitely worth the drive from Baton Rouge, and we will be back.

“Nice zoo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2009

Nice zoo. Mostly shaded walks with a good variety of animals. Really affordable fun for the family. $3 adult and $2 for kids. The train wasn't much but the kids enjoyed it. Only draw backs was the musky smell (but is a zoo), and some of the exhibits was hard for small kids to see due to the bamboo fence.

“Not my best choice”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2009

my kids and I went in july of 2009 and it just really wasn't all that. the monroe zoo is much better if you ask me. the animals here looked as if they needed to be dr. treated as some were bleeding and loosing their hair. my kids even said one looked like it was suffering. you can get pretty close to the tigers and lions, and the kids did have a good time pretty much. the price is very, very affordable. if you are a bird lover, then you will like this place, since that's mostly what they have an abundance of. thank goodness..my kids are pretty easy to please. I guess you get what you pay for.

“GREAT little zoo, loved the train ride”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2009

We have a zoo in our own town and we LOVE this one. The boys love the train ride, feeding the fish, the Louisianna aquarium exhibit, the Louisiana otter and alligator exhibits. This is a well-landscaped zoo with active animals. A nice playground. We just love visiting this zoo.

“Bengal Tigers were beautiful!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2008

We were able to get very close to the tigers. They are gorgeous. Because it was a cool, sunny October day all the animals were very active. Admission was $3 for adults and $2 for children....good price.
