“Seafood”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

We have been going to Shuck for years. Went the other day after not having been for awhile. Great new menu and the food is still as great as ever. They have some new items on the menu which sounds interesting to try, but I had my favorite for this time of the year - Seafood Gumbo -there's none like it anywhere I've every had. The Seafood Platter is something else also. They give you enough to fill you up and you don't go away humgry. The wait staff are friendly and helpful it you're not sure what you would like.

“Favorite restaurant in Louisiana”
Reviewed January 25, 2013 via mobile

Even beats out the fancy, often overpriced, New Orleans places. The crawfish ettuffe is fabulous, and the oysters are big, fresh and wonderful. We go miles out of our way to stop by here.

“Outstanding Gumbo!”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

My husband orders gumbo EVERYWHERE we go! We are from South Louisiana. Shuck's gumbo was one of the BEST! Traditional char-broiled oysters were very good! Gator bites were mostly just breading.

“Best food in Abbeville, expect a long wait & cafeteria atmosphere”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Shucks is an occasional dinner choice for us when we either have a lot of time and patience to wait for a table, or are willing to eat especially early or late. Shucks' food is great -- excellent raw and grilled oysters, best crab cakes I've had in LA, one of my favorites for crawfish etouffee. Hubby loves their pan broiled (grilled) oysters. Most entrees come with a salad and choice of starch-based side. Wish they would add another salad option/upgrade to get something more than a bowl full of lettuce with a couple of tomato slices on top. REALLY wish they'd add a few healthier side options - veggies, anyone?

The atmosphere is best described as cajun cafeteria - we hate it, but we're outsiders, so the single open large room with plastic tables motif is jarring to us. They are somewhat victims of their own success - the restaurant is always packed, and it seems like there is ALWAYS an 1+ hour wait for dinner. It's loud and they try to turn the tables quickly, but the, service is generally good and every time we've dined, the manager has stopped by to ask how our meal was.

When we get a craving for oysters, we are always torn between Shucks and Dupuy's. Shucks has an edge on Dupuy's for food, but Dupuy's is so much less hassle with a quieter atmosphere, so we usually wind up there. Shucks is highly recommended, though, for truly excellent cajun food.
