My wife and I have been looking for a good sushi restaurant since we moved to Panama City three years ago. She has been enjoying sushi for 40 years, so she especially knows something about it. When our friend Bernardo told us about Sake, we were delighted to hear there was a place where you could get genuine sushi in Panama. Sushi is relatively new in Panama, so what we had seen up to that point was sushi at places that were like fast food joints and delivered in motorcycles. At one place we asked where the sushi was and were shown the frozen sushi under the counter - ouch. We have even observed folks eating sushi with forks and having a Coke with their sushi.
We have been to Sake several times, the latest being for my wife’s birthday. We had a variety of sashini atun, sashini hanachi, California rolls, and sushi unagui. It was as usual excellent, comparable to the best sushi restaurants in Southern California and Scottsdale, AZ. Watching the sushi chefs preparing the plates indicated that they were well-trained in the art of sushi. The presentations were very well done. The contemporary décor is very classy. Sake is a bit pricey, but if you need a sushi fix this is the only place in Panama.
