The visitor center is very well done. Four levels of information are connected by escalator. It starts with the French effort. The various pieces of equipment are illustrated with models. The displays present well the problems and the technology used to overcome me. The highlight, though, is the simulator. The visitor is standing on the bridge of a Panamax vessel as it locks through, at Miraflores, of course. The floor shakes as the ship meets the tugs and attaches to the mules. It is a great introduction before going on the terrace to watch the actual ships going through.

The museum was great to learn about the locks' history, with scale models of dredges and equipment used. The centre is also a great viewpoint for the locks to watch ships getting lowered or raised. You can bus here from the Albrook bus terminal, ask for a bus to miraflores and tell the driver to drop you off there, should cost 25cents. it is about 10mins walk from the bus stop. Or a taxi from the city will cost from $7 up.

The museum is good - if you have done your homework and read up before. Thre is a simulation of a ship passing through the locks that is speeded up. this was great. The locks in operation.... a very slow process and not much to see. What is amazing is that the same locks have been in use for nearly 100 years. Again you get this from reading and not by visiting.

Enjoy standing above the locks and watching the ships go through. There is a live commentary in both Spanish and English describing what is happening in front of your eyes. A short 3D documentary is interesting but seems more interested in the 3D than in the story.

This is one of the most fascinating visitors centers I've ever been in. If you didn't have an appreciation for the colossal scale of the Panama Canal Project, what it took to build it, what it takes to maintain it, what it means to economy of the Western Hemisphere, you will after a visit here.

It's amazing to see a cruise ship lock through, or a huge cargo ship, with what looks like only inches to spare on either side.

Easy to get to, very clean, with plenty of facilities, this is worth every penny.
