Very easy to do. Take a taxi from the town. Spend 2 to 3 hrs. Go in the morning or after 2 PM. Spend time in the museum and watch the 3D movie. It will explain everything. After this you must do a hailf or full day tour of Panama Canal.

The actual Visitors center is small, and over 4 floors. There is a short intro video.
Open from 9am - 5pm
There is a restaurant open much later with a patio to view the boats.
Restaurant average.

Well done- very good day spent at the Visitor Center. There are limited food options there though. Bring something or don't be there over a meal time.

We loved watching the two big ships transit through the lock. Mesmerising and we stayed there for three hours just watching the whole transition.

Even in the off-season, this popular tourist attraction was very crowded. The video theater is a very good show and seeing mammoth ships squeeze through the lock is interesting. But I found the museum in Casco Viejo that told the story of building the canal and the current expansion project much more interesting and enjoyable.
