“For the business traveler”
Reviewed July 15, 2012

A modern hotel with beautiful furnished and decorated rooms. The corporate rate include a well served breakfast and a $20 value in drinks every night, which came handy for your afterwork meetings or encounters. If you are afraid of going out to the streets, the hotel is connected to the Multicentro shopping mall, which besides the stores has cinemas, a casino and the Hard Rock Cafe. The personal was very attentive and the hotel taxi service were always ready and reliable, which in the chaotic traffic of Panama is a necessity.

It is a magnificent hotel. The staff was very friendly and professional. the pool was so relaxing for us and the location of this place was perfect, as we ate and danced for many years we did not. Me and my wife are looking forward to returning again!

My husband and I were in Panama in January. We stayed at the Royal Decameron - and then a few days in the city at the Radisson to be closer to the airport. I researched both properties extensively before going. The Decapolis stated that they had a restaurant on the second level that did not have a dress code - and one on the main level that did have a dress code. We travel light - and are outdoorsy people - so my husband only had shorts and shirts packed. I had bought some sun dresses shopping. So my husband is in his walking shorts and shirt (very nice ones I might add) and we get to the second story restaurant for supper and voila - it's closed. We are told that it is closed and we will have to eat at the restaurant downstairs. We were told that there wasn't enough people so they closed it. Hard to believe as it was the first week of January and it was completely packed! So downstairs we go - and you guessed it - they denied my husband entry into the restaurant because the have a dress code - no shorts. Keep in mind they were not board shorts or jean shorts - they were nice longer walking shorts and a Columbia shirt. Nope - no exceptions. So we explained to the hostess that they closed the causal restaurant and we were at an all inclusive. She goes and gets her supervisor - and the same thing. We explain to her - the second time - that it is not our fault that they closed the casual restaurant and that my husband does not have pants. It was like +35 the whole time we were there. Why would we pack pants. Nope - still no entry. They go and get the guest services manager - and we get to repeat the story for a third time! Still no entry to the restaurant. The guest services manager suggests that we order and eat by the pool. Really???? There are no tables by the pool - just lounge chairs - and it is a very small area - and it was very windy - and poorly lit. Really?? Still no access to the restaurant. And now they go get the manager on duty - and we repeat the problem to him - for a fourth time. No one could seem to understand that they stated in their brochure that there were TWO restaurants - one causal and one formal. The MOD just kept saying that the brochure indicates that the main restaurant has a dress code! I know that - but the brochure also states that there are TWO restaurants!! My husband had nice shorts and shirts for golfing - and that is all we packed!! Nope - no access - if we wanted to have supper in our all inclusive we would have to sit by the pool in the dark on a lounge chair!! SERIOUSLY!! So I said why can't you deliver to our room - and they reluctanly agreed to do this. This whole process took over 45 minutes - and my husband was irate at this point. We went to eat at the HardRock - and the other two nights we ate at the pizza place next door (excellent pizza). My husband did not trust that they wouldn't do something to our food as there had been a screaming match for almost an hour. Most of the people that we had to deal with spoke very marginal English - especially the MOD. They all just kept saying "There is a dress code - it is in the brochure!". And did not seem to understand that we were in this predicament because they closed the causal restaurant that was also in the brochure. This was part of an all inclusive - and 3 nights we had to eat out because they closed the casual restaurant that was listed on the website and their brochure. And no where do they indicate that they may close the casual restaurant so be sure to bring dress clothes. We have stayed at multiple resorts and they ALWAYS have access to casual and formal dining facilities. No one seemed to care that we were in the predicament that we were in because they closed a restaurant that was supposed to be open. The solution was to send us to eat on a lounge chair with no table by a dimly lit pool in the dark in the wind. SERIOUSLY??? It was our fault for not having dress clothes - no exceptions - no apologies! Never again will we stay at a Radisson property!!!!!!

I stayed at the Radisson Decapolis for one night on business in May. I was there only for one night, but I really enjoyed the stay.

The good:
1) The hotel is really pretty and has a contemporary decor.
2) The staff is very friendly and helpful. One of the staff, Amir, was very helpful in recommending a restaurant where we could have dinner and see the Panama Canal in action.
3) The bed was comfortable and I was able to control the temperature in the room (I'm very hot-natured, so this is an issue in some hotels).
4) The room was large and comfortable.
5) It's downdown and across the street from a casino, so it's convenient for night out.

The Bad:
I have no major complaints. However, our reservation was made by a sister property and it was not done correctly (or really at all). Fortunately, the front desk honored the quote we were given by the sister property after they checked with the manager.

Other:
The hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport, so it's nice place to spend the evening before an early flight.

I would recommend this hotel.

This is a great starting place for your evening out in downtown Panama City, however, with the "brand" new Hard Rock (1500 room) Hotel just opened next door, I can see the Decapolis taking a major hit in the customer base unless they pick up their game.

Drinks are a little more expensive than you would expect for PTY, but the experience is pretty good. It's not heaving from rafter to rafter with 20 somethings, nor is it gods waiting room, a generous multi cultural mix of locals and foreigners.

Service, as from my other posts about Panama - we can safely say "It's slow and it sucks" - order 2 beers at a time, or a bottle of wine/champagne etc... Don't get angry with the service, work around it to your own satisfaction.

The restaurant "Decapolis" - we went there due to a tropical storm and torrential rain - There is nothing that would stop me from choosing another restaurant next time we go for drinks. The table service was deplorable and miserable, the seating of a larger table at the back of the restaurant because they want smaller "couples tables" at the front to make it look busy was a terrible excuse for not wanting large tables and most of all the food was completely inexcusable. We had 3 dishes returned because they were completely over cooked, dry and inedible without taking a mouthful drink with it. One dish ordered was grouper (a fish), however, when it came to the table, it was inspected as it looked like chicken - nuked beyond belief. When the staff were challenged about the food, they stated this was what was ordered, so we brought it out - no apologies etc...etc....

The meals, 50% of what came out was sent back, the others were well below the average $20-$25 a plate you would expect elsewhere - we did get these discounted from the bill, however was a waste of time and a disappointment to what started out to be a good night.

Note to self for future - go there to drink enjoy the nuts and chips, no matter what the weather, walk, drive, cab, wait it out, go to a different restaurant for that food-tastic experience.

Husband&I are retirees & have enjoyed over 20 stays here. The jubilado rate, minus 2 free phenomenal breakfast buffets,$20 bar credit per p.m.,$25 casino "dolares" = a fantastic deal. The Fusion restaurant serves heavenly combinations adorned with tantalizing sauces. Menu was revamped around 12/2011 & we can't get enough! Avoid dessert&tempura-battered items. We love the atmosphere at both the bar in the main lobby&the rooftop bar. Visual&music effects are quite unusual&entertaining as are the guests! This is a HOT SPOT.All staff are trained to perfection, they remember your name, details of your stay, your appearance, etc. & are genuine with their gift of personal compliments. Rooms are splendid & beds alone provide a night to remember.
