If you go to Panama you should visit el Casco Viejo. It's not something breathtaking, but it worth visiting. Is not very clean, but there are a few nice old buildings.

Very nice part of the city. Seeing old houses and renovated houses side by side. I think this is very nice part. I walked it with someone I met in a hostel.

A must see, because of the history and to see the President's Palace (from the guard post a block away). It should be a better place when the restoration work is further along. The contemporary murals on the walls are interesting, too.

The history in this area is amazing. It is like being in a little part of Spain. We visited most, if not all of the sites in the old town. The most impressive were the flat arch, the French Plaza, Iglesias de La Merced and Iglesia San Jose with the golden altar. If you have the chance to wonder around and enjoy this area, do it. There is still a great deal of construction going on. When it is finished, it will be even a larger attraction.

You can walk around the old town and enjoy yet another face of Panama. Plenty of photo opportunities, lovely restaurants and cafés. It was refreshingly slow pace and relaxing experience. Don't skip this one.
