“dont know...”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

When you visit other UNESCO listed city centres you tend to see large areas of restored properties with sympathetic treatments reminiscent of the actual times-don't remember red bricks as road pavement though-except for here. I understand that UNESCO warned about a road project going through here but the government is just constructing it-wonder what will happen with the heritage listing?

“can't give it 5 stars because of the massive amount of construction...”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

...but it's an easy 4 stars for anyone who loves the history and architecture of past eras. The French and Spanish influence is rich - if you love just wandering the backstreets and taking it all in at a relaxed pace, you will enjoy this. There will be lots of tourists, and a strong military presence due to nearby embassies, but not so overcrowded that you cannot move around easily & freely (note - we went on a Thursday, weekends could be packed...) The only downside is the massive amount of construction and restoration going on - this area was clearly completely neglected for several decades and there's a significant amount of work ahead to bring it to it's full potential. I agree with a previous reviewer that it's going to take another 5 years (minimum) for it to be restored completely, probably even longer. Worth seeing!

“Nice (old) town”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We walked from the Avenida Central (new town) into the old town. It's nice to see that once you enter the old town, it becomes less crowded/hectic. The buildings show the rich past of Panama city. It's nice to have a walk here and a nice view on the new town as well.

“Beautiful Old Town”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Loved walking around the Old Town. The renovation that is going on in this area is so nice to see. The town will remind you of New Orleans and Old San Juan. Lose the map and just walk. Eat at Tamalo's, excellent food and great roof top for sunset

“Preserving heritage”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Its great to see the efforts to conserve the old quarter in Panama City. particularly the balconies on the houses. Believe Unesco contributing to this. Very good project. It is going well, but more to do.
