“City under construction”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

I hate to write a negative review on an historic old city, but I wanted to warn travellers that the old city is under construction. It will probably be a wonderful place to visit (the beauty of the renovated buildings is evident) in a couple of years, but right now it's a frustrating experience. Streets are impassable. It is difficult to find tourist sites and some of them are behind construction barricades. Plus, the day I visited, the President was in residence and a number of the streets were closed.

“Amazing Casco Viejo”

May look a little worn out but just beautiful to visit and share all the sights. Lovely vendors with great trinkets and the old church is worth the visit.

“Charming Area Undergoing Renovation”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

The Casco Viejo (also called Casco Antiguo) area is a wonderful are to explore, with lots of quaint streets, houses, churches, the Canal Museum and the Promenade along the ocean. Fascinating to see this work in progress. Extensive police presence at all hours of the day ensures safety for tourists and residents. Friendly atmosphere day and night, with plazas where one can dine al fresco and many interesting nooks and crannies to walk around in. Not for those looking for a Disney World experience, but if you like architecture and rustic surroundings, worth seeing before all of the gentrification is completed.

The old and new stand side by side, a glimpse of the past and a hint of the treats to come. Construction everywhere, excellent views of the city skyline.
