“A lovely oasis in the heart of the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

My husband and I just returned from a week's trip to Panama and were fortunate to stay in the charming and very French Hotel DeVille in Panama City. Our room was like a junior suite, spacious and extremely comfortable. We were provided with robes, slippers, plenty of fluffy towels, and a comfy bed. The bathroom was large and immaculate, with a walk-in shower and plenty of hot water. The breakfast, included in the room price, was a yummy buffet. The attached restaurant was also wonderful and catered to the customers delightfully. The personnel were friendly and helpful, the lobby was inviting, all in all it was a great place to stay at a great price. We could walk to several nice restaurants in the neighborhood. There was no pool, which was fine with us, but might be a drawback if one is traveling with children. It had a sophisticated and yet welcoming ambience that we truly enjoyed. Great for a getaway!

Room Tip: No views anywhere, the hotel is surrounded by high rises!

After an extremely hairy taxi ride from the airport, we were very pleased to arrive here. The lobby is quite large, the staff welcoming and helpful. We apparently had been upgraded to a duplex room, which consisted of two bedrooms - one upstairs and one below, which had a sitting room attached. Why there was a refrigerator only in the upstairs bedroom was a bit puzzling, but hey ho! The bed was comfortable, the lighting was quite dim, and the view from the windows was...... a wall of the hotel next door, complete with washing hanging from a rail. Breakfast was fairly good, and the location was OK for walking (daylight only). As a base in Panama City it was OK.

Really a lovely and comfortable hotel. Large clean room and the filled ice bucket daily was a nice touch The front desk staff were outstanding, very pleasant and helpful and spoke excellent English. Good buffet breakfast. Lots of other eateries around. We would thoroughly recommend this boutique hotel for a short stay in Panama City.

We stayed three nights at beginning of our 3 week tour of Panama. Its a small hotel with a big heart. Rooms very comfortable and food in restaurant excellent. The staff are brilliant - very friendly, knowledgable and can not do enough to help you. There is also a fantastic Indian restaurant 5 mins taxis drive away! If you want large and impersonal don't stay here!

We spent six nights at this hotel in January on three different visits. This is a very comfortable boutique hotel in the heart of the financial district, just off 50th street. This area is very congested but a good location for exploring the city by foot, taxi or bus. Within walking distance are casinos, two malls, several excellent restaurants, a cafateria and cigar shops selling cuban cigars.

I would recommend the Junior suites as they are very large and have very comfortable furniture. The rooms are well laid out with large bathrooms, one sink but ample counter space. The showers are large and provide plenty of hot water. However, the shower heads leave a little to be desired. The rooms have coffee makers, hair dryers, a safe, robes and slippers, mini bar and a large flat screen TV. Keep the kids away from channel 37. Wifi is included in every room. The heating and cooling system is modern and works well. We had 3 different rooms and they all were dark. There are no worthwhile views from any rooms. The hotel has an efficient lift and a well equipped business center.

Breakfast was included in our rate and it was fine but does not vary. It includes everything you need to start the day but the help is slow in refilling empty dishes.

The lobby is large and reception is casual and informal. The staff however is very friendly and helpful. Forget the attached restaurant and bar. Even the free welcome drink is not worth the visit. There is a very good complimentary business center where you can print boarding passes.

I would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay again when visiting Panama city.

Room Tip: Room 217 was great

We stayed for eith nights on / off in December and January as we came and went to various parts of Panama. It is a very well maintained high quality and stylish hotel. The rooms are very spacious, well equipped and comfortable. On top of this they have a great staff team, especially the reception and concierge who made our stays entertaining, fixing transport, finding restauarants and helping us make the right decesions on what to do in the city. Highly recomended. By the way the pillow menu is a great extra they provide to make your stay extra comfortable!

Stayed here 2 nights in December upon recommendation from our travel agent. The room was large but I would say that was the only redeeming quality. We did not have hot water, our rooms (we had 2) faced a wall. They were very dark. The breakfast was fair, it is in a small room at the back with no windows. Although we were told it is a great area all around was pretty abandoned and run down. There were no restaurants nearby.

The staff was not very helpful. Could not recommend a restaurant for lunch and when we asked if we could take some towels for a jungle tour they said we would be charged if we brought them back dirty.

If you want a small boutique hotel I would recommend staying in the Casco Viejo district. The restaurants are great but it is a long taxi drive from the Deville.
