“Marvelous experience”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

Our family of five (3 kids 12 and under) had a MARVELOUS experience at Torres de Alba. We stayed three nights over the new year (2013). Beautiful lobby with very friendly and helpful reception staff. We loved the spacious suite that accommodated our family well (one child slept on a couch with extra bedding provided). Great views of the city from our 8th floor room. It was also wonderful to have a washer/dryer in the suite and kids loved that there was a pool. Within walking distance (10-12 minutes?) to El Rey grocery store which is like any large US grocery store, including lots of US products.
Fantastic breakfast buffet: 4-5 hot foods that changed each morning, boiled eggs, made-to-order omelettes, delicious raisin bread!!!, toast, cheeses, deli meat, yogurt, cranberries, raisins, granola, oatmeal, 4-5 fresh fruits, juice and coffee
We would highly recommend this hotel to all our friends and family. An excellent value for your money.
I’d give it 4.5 stars. Three improvements that would make it 5 stars for me:
*provide a large fry pan in kitchen. There was only one small fry pan and we had to cook our meat in batches
*have a recycling program. I hate having the wonderful use of a kitchen but having to dump plastic/cans/cardboard in the garbage
*clearly state on a breakfast buffet open to children that the drink (rum punch) is an alcoholic beverage - this would be really helpful for parents and children to know!!!

Although it's not fancy, it's a great hotel. The apartments are quite big, quiet and comfortable. The only downside was that I had the AC motor inside my room so it was a bit noisy.

One of the best things of the hotel is the gym. It's really big and it's usually empty so you can comfortably work out. Oh, and they also provide you towels and bottles of water.

Location is great too as it's surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars, casinos, etc. Besides it seems a safe area (in the context of Panama).

Breakfast was average but it could be improved (and, again, it's no fancy at all).

If you are staying, try to ask for a room on Tower 1. If you stay in the other towers it's kind of annoying to get to your room as you'll have to take two elevators and walk through the parking area to get there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in Tower 1

We spent 3 nights there. The hotel is in what appears to be a major hotel district in the center of the city. The breakfast offering (included) was excellent and included eggs and omeletts cooked to order. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful with reasonably good English. We chose to eat in in the evening, so the fully equipped kitchen (with clothes washer and dryer) proved useful. There is a 24 hour supermarket nearby.
We were given a room on the top floor (good views). Unfortunately it was not a good choice. The vibration and rumble of rooftop mechanicals did a job on our sleep. Additionally the AC unit in our room initially did not work. Maintenance staff (who spoke no English) did get it functioning. During the night it developed an annoying whistle. I turned it off and opened the windows. The next morning we requested another room. Without even stating our reason, the desk clerk knew why. The new room 3 stories lower was fine.
From the hotel's location we were able to walk to the old city. For the most part it was a pleasant stroll along the ocean front. Round trip, including walking most streets in the old city, was 10 miles. On the next day we walked to Panama Viejo, which is a ruins site. This too was a 10 mile round trip, but hardly recommended because of the slum neighborhoods we needed to pass through to get there. Bags of trash and liter were everywhere along the route. The only pleasant part was about a mile through a well maintained park.

Room Tip: Avoid the top floors

My husband, my mother, and I stayed at Torres de Alba for six nights. The
apartment was very comfortable with a good view of the city skyscrapers and
the Bay. To make the apartment better; the kitchen should have included serving pieces and cutting boards for an occasional meal. The breakfast improved every morning we were there, but they need to serve more protein.
Our cleaning lady was very good. Many thanks to Derek Lashley who helped
us with any request we might have had. In sum, we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Try to stay at a higher floor; we were given our apartment suite at the 11th floor, and we could he...

The apartment ( hotel) was great too big for just two people. It has everything you may need a kitchen, washing machine, large size fridge and a full living room and dinning room. AWsome! The breakfast changes every day but there are so many choices and they leave it all the way up to 10:00am! The gym was great and they give you bottle water and a towel. The hotel has wi fi so its great. The value is great and its surrounded by small grocery stores and local shopping stores and restaurants.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same, the upgrades rooms are really nice if you plan to cook or just like the comf...

It was one of the best hotels I've stayed in. The staff were friendly and very helpful if any problem arose. The breakfast was excellent and the rooms were remarkably clean. The view from the 22nd floor was amazing to a first timer like me to panama.
The restaurant around the corner " Van Gogh " was conveniently located and the staff and waiters there were friendly as well. Excellent service and great food. Overall it was a great experience.

Torres de Alba is good value at a comfortable and convenent location. The new tower is particularly inviting with all of the amenities of a vacation home and a stunning view of central Panama City. Service is efficient and friendly. Restaurants for all tastes and budgets are in easy walking distance. Take advantage of neighborhood shops and services at reasonable prices. Book a tour, take a stroll or just enjoy the comfort of you room.
