We took a tour of monkey island through a tour company based out of Panama City. We had a great time on our tour, and we did see monkeys, there just wasn't as many as we had hoped for. Though we seem to have seen more than some people have said. But as many other reviewers have mentioned, or tour guide explained that the original monkey island no longer exists due to the construction on the canal. We did however see lots of other animals and birds, as our guide seemed really good at spotting the wildlife. We especially enjoyed seeing all the baby animals.

This was a wonderful experience. You go on a small boat on the Chagres River and Gatun Lake to 4-5 islands and view the wildlife. We saw capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, crocodiles, and many birds. It was so very interesting to see these animals, reptiles, and birds in their own habitat. Great picture taking opportunities. Guides were knowledgeable and very nice.

The monkey's were everywhere. They were playing with each other and jumping all over the place. We saw lots of other animals around the island like turtles and crocs. Totally worth it.

We wanted a low price, no frills trip. We just wanted to see the monkeys but not have to stay for three hours on a boat. For $25 each we took a boat with a 40 HP motor and life jackets. If your driver can find the parking lot just before crossing the bridge that takes you to Gamboa Eco Resort that's the spot. There are no signs. The young native man who drove us knew exactly where to go and we saw the three species. Howlers were high in the trees and not likely to come down. Next spot we saw the Capuchin monkeys who jumped onto our boat for the fruit and peanuts. My husband thought he saw a snake hanging from the tree. Even our guide jumped! It turned out to be the very long monkey tail, very funny moment. Third and final stop, was the Ti-Ti monkeys who at first were shy but they did come down. The trip was an hour and twenty minutes and the rain was starting to fall as we neared the dock. If you time it right 11:30 a.m. You will pass the giant freighters in the canal. Perfect price and we saw what we hoped to see.

Because of the dredging along the Panama Canal to increase it's size, they have taken the dredged material and deposited it around the original monkey island. However, there are several other little island which you will be taken to that have monkeys on them. We saw 2 monkeys that came down to the boat.
