We hired Rudy's Tours to take us on a tour of this lake. He arranged for a nice boat, bottled water and off we went. We went all over the lake. Rudy provided ecological information, pointed out monkeys, sloths, birds indigenous to the area and a variety of flora and fauna not seen in the Chicago area. Rudy make the tour so interesting and the boat ride was great. We got into areas only a small boat could go. Highly recommend it.

Gatun lake offers an enjoyable boat trip to see the howler monkeys and the lake itself with large ships passing you in the waters but few people probably know how fun it is to fish in the lake. We caught peacock bass which we brought back to the Gamboa hotel to have cooked. They are excellent eating and a fun catch. You should drive there or have a driver take you as the trains get filled easily in the morning and seem to be for business commuting to the Tax Free Zones in Colon. The hotel is lovely though we hear it is not doing so well as before. We loved staying there in the past even though there is not a lot to do other than stroll in the area, go on zip lines or such. However there are nice boat excursions and the fishing is a lot of fun.

We crossed Gatun Lake as part of our Panama Canal transit. We had fine weather throughout, with thankfully only a short spell of rain. The views around the lake are not stunning, but it is part of the iconic Panama Canal, which gives it a kudos all of its own.

We spent half a day with Abelardo & had an absolutely amazing time. He picked us up at our hotel (Las Clementinas) & took us to the lake where we fished for several hours in some very quiet parts of the lake. Abelardo & his assistant were exceptionally attentive - making sure that we would catch lots of fish - & we certainly did. Since I am a beginner when it comes to fishing, they were really good at coaching me. It rained while we were on the Lake, but it didn't stop us from fishing & having a great time. When we returned to the dock, we were able to have our fish (Peacock Bass) cleaned, and ate our fish for dinner that night.

45 of us went on a fishing excursion for about 4 hrs and we caught so many fish we could not believe it. The family that works there cleans them and puts them into baggies for you.
