Enjoyed the journey through Gatun Lake from the Culebra Cut to the Gatun Locks. Scenic throughout and passing other boats transiting the canal in the opposite direction. The blue waters made a pleasant change from the muddy canal.

The hostess at the site had a lot of joy in what she did and took the time to explain to us about the operations and history.

Gatun Lake is the second largest man-made lake in the world (it was the largest until Lake Mead was created). It functions as part of the Panama Canal. We were on Gatun Lake twice, once in a motor boat to Monkey Island and once in a larger boat to get to the Lock and the Pacific Ocean. This was part of a Caravan tour.

Go to the public boat ramp on the way to Gamboa Rainforest resort and arrange a fishing trip with a local guide. It's about 50.00 plus pole rentals and minnows are extra. Our guide ran out of hooks! Really........we still had fun he took us over to Monkey island where a monkey jumped in our boat and stole my banana that was sticking out of my backpack. With my cat like reflexes I was able to steal it back, but I was laughing so hard I eventually just gave it to him. We caught about 15 peacock bass no real big ones.
