If you go to the Gamboa Rain Forrest Resort you should stop at the Park. During the time of the U.S. control of the Panama Canal this was a park for employees & family to use for picnics, parties, etc. Since Panama has taken over the canal this facility has deteriorated but still worth stopping to see. The gardens include a small zoo.

I came here on a Sunday morning and had to wait until the park opened at 9:00. I was almost alone and got the local rate instead of the foreigner rate (which is 2.5x more). Apart form the animals behind bars, there are a lot of birds in and around the park. The park itself is also nicely laid out and peaceful. A perfect stop to get away from the city and see some nature.

I loved the peacefulness. The children run freely enjoying the tropical plants and animals. It would be nice if they had more animals, but enough to see smiles in the children. One of my fave places in Panama.

This is a great place to go during the dry season, large open areas for the kids to run around. Animal enclosures are not anywhere near world standard, but with an entrance fee of $1, it is great value.
