This national park is also an animal refuge for animals. It provides visitors with a wonderful opportunity to see a jaguar, margays, various types of monkeys, several types of birds, tapirs, etc. The park itself is a wonderful setting with lovely trees, a pond with many turtles, and walkable paths. You can do it as part of a tour which would likely be overpriced. My boyfriend and I hired a taxi to take us back and forth - $20 each way.

There are lots of cool trees with amazing roots. There are areas for swimming on certain trails. On one trail, there are ant swarms carrying leaves, so beware if you are afraid of bugs.

You need a guide and/or a hotel in or near the park like Gamboa Resort or Canopy Tower. With a good guide you will see much wildlife and flora.

Toured the rain forest with a tour guide and was amazed at the birds and howler monkeys. The view from the Gamboa Resort was amazing!

Take the road to Gamboa/Summit and keep continuing (around 10 km). Cross the bridge, drive through the village of Gamboa (do not forget to have a look at the lovely church to your right), continue until the road is changing into a dirt road. From there it’s rather well sign posted. Park your car at the entrance and pay the fee 5 USD pp at the gate or one of the park guards will ask you for it. We enjoyed the hike (saw agouti and howler monkeys). We were however very surprised about the price of the park (and a visit to the tower). As this centre is not part of the national park you have to pay and additional 5 USD pp entrance. 30 USD (adult-non residence) and 4 USD (child) to visit the area and the tower. For a family with two kids this means 88 USD for a hike in the forest. We think this is too much (even when all the money is spend for the conservation of the forest). In this way only rich people are able to learn their children about the beauty of the rainforest.
