We enjoyed all the pictures but couldn't understand anything since it was all in Spanish.

Towards the end of our visit we saw some people with audio guides. Maybe the museum as English audio guides? Ask when you get there! I saw some numbers for keying into the machine. If it was available, nobody told us about it.

This museum is set in a beautifull old buiding that used to be the headquarter of the french company that started building the canal before the american took over in 1904. The history of the canal construction is absolutely facinating, this museum is an absolute must if you want to understand the construction challenges and the diplomacy around the canal. There are relics, object of the past, some video and pictures, singed treaties and also a lot of text in spanish. The english audio guide is therefore a must for non spanish speaking visitors.
The only negative aspect in this museum and the american spoken text in Audio Guide is that it gives an american only view of the canal building history, totally forgetting the french period. If you want to learn more I can only recommend one book "The path between the seas" written by a great american historian, David McCullough. A must read for anyone who wants to learn the full history of creation, from 1870 till 1914.
The staff in the museum is wonderful, very friendly and so happy that you visit this museum. There are also some interesting temp expo. In january 2014, the one about Mexican contemporan painters was cool.

2014 marks 100 years for the Panama Canal. If you want to go home with a great perspective of the canal and the smart, determined men who built it, this is a great place to spend a hot afternoon!

With only a 8$ fee you can visit and understand all the not-so-easy history of the Canal. There are also some aquariums where you can see some local species of the Canal
