Good hotel. Rooms are very spacious and clean. Staff are helpful and English speaking. Access to other facilities, internet, spa and pools was first rate. Transport available if you require to go into the city. My room looked over the Panama Canal with a balcony and chairs etc to use whilst having a coffee.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the canal are alot quieter.

The hotel had excellent prices for canal view rooms. a fantastic pool and great proximity to the Amador causeway. we very much enjoyed our stay and it was relatively easy to get back to the airport. They even made us a breakfast bag as we had to leave before breakfast.

Room Tip: definitely take a canal view room

We are wrapping up a stay at the Country Inn and Suites Amador in Panama. It's a 60's/70's vintage hotel, comfortable, very friendly, beginning to show its age a bit. If you're into ship watching, it's wonderful, fronting right on the Pacific entry to the Panama Canal. Our room faced the Canal and we can sit on the outdoor balcony and watch large ships going by.

There's a nice breakfast included everyday and if you like the chain a TGI Fridays attached to the hotel. There's not a lot to do nearby at this time but walk the causeway. The Yacht Club, a smaller, older traditional bar and restaurant for the adjacent small yacht area, is nice, simple and inexpensive. Other dining is about a mile walk down the causeway, with decent seafood and casual Italian. Normally, we wouldn't walk a route like this at night, but after a couple of trips for dinner, it seemed safe and ok.

Anything into town is a cab ride. The ferry for Taboga leaves from the yacht club dock, so that was convenient.

Room Tip: upper floors, on the Canal side, more toward the entrance to the Canal to avoid a couple of large tr...

In the new building with smell of cement, construction all around, no character, no view, seriously nothing special. Big disappointment for our first 3 nights in this interesting country. There was nothing to make us feel like we were in Panama while in the hotel - breakfast was adequate but could've been anywhere in N America. Front desk staff upon arrival was overworked, harried, and unpleasant. Big sigh. It got better when we moved out of the city.

Room Tip: I wouldn't have a clue how to help anyone choose a good room - mine was not.

We booked here for our last two days in Panama. We had a room facing the canal and really enjoyed the view, it was worth the price of the upgrade on the room. Our two children loved the pool. The room was clean and very nice. much nicer than I expected given the mixed reviews here. The breakfast was good, lots of choices. All the staff were very nice and helpful too.

The reason to stay at this property is the view..as many reviewers have previously said.. So be sure to get a private balcony..on the left side of the hotel..the right side has a large tree obscuring the view..rooms 1207-1214, 1307-1314 are the ones to aim for. That being said, the hotel itself is quite nice and the standard double is more attractive than the junior suite. Air conditioning worked well! After seeing the area..I cannot imagine why anyone would want to stay in downtown Panama..surrounded by highrises..or in Panama Viejo..currently under massive rennovation..

Watch out for the lighting system..which I had never seen before..the room key must be placed in a receptacle for the lights to work..no one told us and I was at the desk complaining that the lights did not work.. There is a washer and dryer on the second floor, but it was always busy so we did not bother..

The property appears to be composed of an older and newer building, connected by an attractive corridor. The breakfast room is in the newer area and is an airy, large and pleasant room and the breakfast is plentiful, the usual cereals and pastries but with a with a pleasing array of fresh fruit, as well as hot offerings which vary every day.. I was also very pleased to find the coffee was instant Nescafe..as I travel with my own instant coffee. Brewed coffee at hotels is usually too weak for me.

There is a pool..but don't book here for the pool unless you have children.. I was not at all tempted by the pool altho' it was particularly attractive in the dusk..There was some repair going on surrounding the pool and there were many children..In fact it seemed as tho' the neighborhood children were enjoying the pool as well as the plastic play gym next to it..

The best part was sitting on the balcony..my husband greatly enjoyed the ships toing and froing from the Pacific entrance to the canal and I enjoyed the birds! The Long Tailed Grackles keep up a constant chorus..Tropical Kingbirds, Hooked Bill Kite w/ a fish, Forked Tailed Flycatchers on the pool lightposts..Magnificent Frigate birds..I could go on.. I have not seen that mentioned before and may be of interest to potential birder guests. If you want an unobstructed view to photograph sunset over the Bridge of the Americas..walk right, out of pool exit..continue beyond the fence and there is an old concrete platform with a fine view..

There is a snack bar and a Friday's Restaurant attached to the hotel. It's a Friday's, it's loud, the menu is abbreviated and the food is not very good.. You can however eat in the veranda with a sort-of water view. Actually the salad was fine, but the shrimp in my husbands order were way past their prime.. However, it is there..and was very handy the first night, when tired and disoriented.. Do try Mi Ranchita, a short cab ride out on the causeway..once you get your bearings..

As for transportation, walk out the front hotel door and to your right to pick up waiting yellow cabs. Beware of anyone offereing a cab at the door..prices will be much higher in "Tourist" cabs. Stick to yellow cabs.. If there are no cabs off hotel property to the right..walk a brief way to the Amador Causeway..Cabs go by all the time. That being said, rates vary..there are no meters and drivers will charge what they can.. Some are very honest, others try to gouge..Into town costs from 7$-10$..out to the causeway Islands from 2$-4$..No matter, tourists pay more than locals.. I am not very good at bargaining but do try..and you may do better. Tips are not necessary and if I thought the price was too high gave none..If a fair deal..I tipped..

If you walk along the causeway (behind hotel) walk to your right..in about 20 minutes there is a restaurant that rents bicycles..but it was way too hot for me to bike ride..Further out on the causeway Islas(cab ride) one can rent all manner of wheeled conveyances..which seemed popuar in the evening..

One last warning..do not rely on airport pick-up. The hotel was friendly and prompt with emails whilst I was booking, but disappeared when I was confirming and using their computer system to request airport pick-up... They charge 35$..Cab cost 38$... Although I used their computer system to request airport pick-up..it was never confirmed and no one ever came. To be fair, I later learned that there was a city wide power outage right before I came..so that could explain the problem.. They did apologize but desk personnel and booking personnel are not connected..so don't count on pick-up..

Room Tip: R00ms 1207-1214 or 1307-1314 Private balcony.

The hotel has great views of the canal and ocean. Most staff were friendly but the girl in the cafe area was most unhelful and didn't stock most of what was on the menu and when we asked for a pool towel at reception, we were told it would be brought out for us and it wasn't. Our room on the fourth floor, with ocean view was clean, well laid out, and comfortable. we found the hotel very noisy but may be because we were there over the spring break and lots of american school children were there. At times the pool was a no go area due to the number of kids in it.

Breakfast was OK and they did a nice packed breakfast for us when we left very early one morning. We didn't try the buffet at lunch but we did go to TGI Fridays one evening which was very poor. About 100 yards down the road is the yacht club which is a better place to eat.
Generally an OK place to stay but nothing special.
