The hotel rooms seem recently renovated but some rooms are still undergoing renovation, the transit in between floors can get hectic if big groups are present.

Room Tip: Has only one restaurant and bar which limits your options but location is good.

My husband and I spent 4 nights in this hotel last week and had mixed feelings about it. It is definitely not up to American Intercontinental standards but is not horrible. The hotel could use some remodeling in areas such as hallways but overall is nice. The rooms are large and well equipped, views of the water are beautiful. The hotel was full while we were there and we didn't experience any problems with noise. The elevators are very slow and we opted to take stairs down sometimes. The front desk staff was helpful depending on who was working. Some were freindly and helpful, some snippy and rude. It was very apparent that they are given questions to ask, such as "how is your time in Panama", yet they don't really care about a response. The pool was very nice and we weren't bothered bythe noise from the street. We did take our own drinks and snacks to the pool and no one minded. The bar in the hotel is a bit dark and loud but had a nice view.
The hotel is located close to Calle Uraguay where there are many restaurants and bars. Also, it is right next to the trail where you can walk along the water all the way to the fish market. One piece of advice. Do not get cabs from the hotel, walk out of the driveway on Balboa and flag one down there, they are 1/3 the price you will get at the hotel.
Overall it was a nice stay but doubt we would go back.

Room Tip: ask for water view!

As Platinum Priority Club members, we thought we may receive an upgrade: WRONG.
When we inquired if upgrade was available, the girl responded "this is what you get".
She didn't even acknowledge our status, as we usually are greeted in other I/C Hotels.
On a positive note, the room, facing the bay, was spacious, clean, and well prepared for our visit, including a tray of fruit, bottled water and welcome letter. After unpacking, we returned to the front desk and requested a local area map and directions to the Carnivale Festival. A staff member, Vincent, advised he had no map, but "just walk down there (pointing) and you'll find it". His reply, not even expected at a Motel 6, offended us. Perhaps his name tag should read "Do Not Disturb".
We had the breakfast buffet and were pleased with the offerings, and it's attentive staff.
The pool is clean, well organized and the towel attendant eagerly sets up your chairs for you. A visit the the hotel bar was worthwhile. The bartender not only offered snacks to go along with our drink, but answered some of our questions about the city and guided us on local attractions.
In summary, the hotel is clean and the dining room nicely decorated. WiFi, at a fee, is expensive. If you're a first-time visitor like us, come prepared with your own guide book, as the staff is useless.
Despite responding to a Priority Club survey regarding our stay, I've yet to receive a reply, even after registering a complaint.

Room Tip: Don't count on Priority Club Platinum Status

We had planned to stay 7 days at the hotel but left after just two nights. The service was horrible. The internet reservation was fraudulent. I reserved a two bedroom suite with internet. Once we checked in and tried to use the internet we were told that we would be charged a seperate internet fee for each person staying in the room. That was not indicated on the reservation. That was bad enough but can you believe the internet didnt work properly and they could not fix it? They blamed our computers:) We needed to do business and for our business the internet is necessary. That what why we checked out and went to the Riu hotel...What a difference!!! High Speed wireless internet..choice of multiple restaurants on site, friendly service, and less then half the price!!! The thing that amazed me most at Intercontinental was when we were checking out the receptionist asked us how our stay was. We told him it was unacceptable for the reasons mentioned....and his response was "ok sorry to hear that" with an attitude that expressed he could care less. This was typical of the staff. This is the first bad experience I have ever had at intercontinental. This hotel really hurt their good name. Do yourself a favor and cut your expenses in half while tripling the value and stay at the Riu...Was very impressed but then again maybe it was because the Intercontinental was so poor for a 5 star hotel!

I had much higher expectations for an InterContinental Hotel. While the hotel itself was in a great location with a lovely pool and beautiful views of the Pacific, that's about where it stopped. The rooms were average, the service was lacking, the food was unimpressive, and it was a very noisy hotel. If you have a room facing the Pacific (which should be a plus), it is very loud due to the highway that runs just in front of the hotel. Buses, motorcycles, and cars could be heard very loudly, even from a 14th floor room. This place needs to invest in better insulated windows to keep the noise pollution out... Even the noise between rooms and to the outside hall was very loud - really not a very private feeling. Additionally, the elevators are VERY SLOOOOOW.... For a nearly 20-story hotel, they have only two elevators, which frequently required a wait of 5-7 minutes (no joke) for one to arrive to your floor.

We attempted to make plans to tour around the city, the canal, and out to the rainforest, but found the concierge to be perfectly unhelpful. Our friends booked a day trip to Gamboa and the concierge told them the shuttle would pick them up at 8am. Well, the shuttle came at 7:50am and left them. My fiance and I just ended up booking all our tours directly through the tour companies we wanted.

About the only good thing at this hotel was the pool. The pool was very clean, relaxing, and a nice way to spend a few hours in the sun. However, even though they say you can order food/drinks to the pool, you literally have to hunt down someone from inside the hotel to place an order...

All in all - we weren't impressed.
