Panama La Vieja is a magical place of history, As you walk through its broken down halls you can hear the ecos of the past. Our wonderful guide was very good at bringing the history of the town alive through his vivid descriptions. The restorations are giving new life and interest to this old gem if OPanama's history

Have to cross the city get there, what for? to see some ruins you can t visit from inside because it s too dangerous (closed) and anyway none are entire. better grab a pirate story book.

Not someplace I would recommend going in the heat, but this was a nice place to walk around and learn a little about the history of the old Panama City and its history with pirates. So many ruins to look at that at one point they all start to look the same. the tourism police also rode around and stopped, giving advice on things to see while visiting that area. I suggest taking some water and a little snack, because you can definitely find a nice little spot to relax and enjoy the views.

not the Canal (well, for me) This is a historical place, was founded in 1519 one of the very first Spaniard settlements in the Pacific side after the Pacific discovery. This city was destroyed by a fire in 1671 and then move to the present Casco Viejo.

The ruins are not in great condition but that is what it is: ruins!! There is a visitor center worth to visit along with the visit to the old cathedral tower and surroundings across the road (watch out when crossing!) A little but: not easy access for handicaps and/or wheelchairs. The old cathedral tower now is accessible by stairs where is possible to get views of the city. Across the street there are some restored ruins of an ancient convent. A little tip: when walking these areas wear very comfy shoes for walking, dress comfy, no jewelry, watch closely your belongings since slums are almost attached to these ruins.
