Beautiful hotel, bilingual & helpful staff, great location, and tasty breakfast. Highly recommend! 2 nights in the old city is perfect. Definitely go to the fish market and Las Clementine for dinner. A must... Miraflores locks.

The good: Excellent area of the city, full of character, very nice cafes, bars and restaurants, very atmospheric and nostalgic. Even if you don't stay in this area, Old City is awesome, and not to be missed when visiting Panama City. The hotel is only a few blocks away from the President's Palace, which makes the area very safe due to constant police presence. The room we had was spacious, with balcony, living area and kitchenette - like a small apartment. Charming design. Nice breakfast is included and is served in a cafe next door. Late night concierge to get your questions answered and concerns addressed, or help you plan the next day.

The not-so-good: Room wasn't very clean - not disgusting dirty of course - but just dusty and the floors seems unwashed (beds and towels were clean though, so the general dustiness was not a huge deal for me personally). A bottle of water from the minibar came in at US$9 - the ones we later got from a convenience store across the street were less that US $2. The room faced a small but popular street, and let in every sound from the street and the bars in the area - so you will be hearing voices, laughter, music, honking, yelling and everything in between early into the morning, until 5-6am on the weekend, as was the case for us. Then, at 7am construction began at the building directly across the street... That's not the hotel's fault, but just FYI. One of the concierge guys lied about how much the taxi ride to the regional airport should be... his "guess" was way higher than what the ride actually costs. We figured he was trying to make a few extra bucks by having his friend drive us and charge us more than what others charge (so beware - the ride to/from international airport (one way) should not be more than US$26 and to/from regional airport (one way) should not be more than US$15; Panama operates largely on US currency).

Tips: Take the double-decker bus that stops nearby - this will give you a chance to see the entire city. There are two routes, one of which also goes to the Panama Canal (it isn't very exciting, at least from a point of view of two 30 year old women...). Bus ticket cost about $25 per person - you get it directly from the bus driver when you get on and it's good for the whole day to hop off and on anywhere. Eat at a restaurant called Tantalo in Casco Viejo. The restaurant is on the next block from Casa del Horno hotel and serves amazing tapas-style food. Amazing. At 9:30 at night it was packed, so come earlier to avoid waiting for a seat. We went there twice and tried pretty much 2/3 of the menu during our two visits - every dish was top notch! It seems that there's also a hotel/guest house by the same name above this restaurant - if the food at the restaurant is any indication, I'd try and stay at Tantalo Hotel next time I am in Panama City!

We booked 2 nights in the penthouse suite to lush it up a little during a month long trip. The suite was beautiful, the staff were more than accommodating, and our stay was everything and more than we wanted. Bravo, Casa Del Horno.

I spent 2 nights here in May 2013 and although the location is superb and the design is interesting, this hotel could be so much more when one considers what some of the neighbouring hotels have done with the uniqueness of the area and its history!
Rooms are spacious and comfortable although cleanliness wasn't great. The floor felt like it hadn't been swept in ages because my feet were black after walking around barefoot for a few minutes.
The hotel has no parking facilities nor an onsite restaurant although breakfast is served at the neighbouring café.
Casco Viejo is definitely worth visiting but for the money this place charges there are better options.

Stayed in the penthouse suite with family for four nights here. Perfect place for modern comfort while touring the old city as great location, lots of room, and mini kitchen for convenience. Staff was always helpful and was instrumental in booking us an Easter Monday jungle tour when no one else wanted to do it. We would recommend this to our friends.

We thought this hotel was gorgeous. As soon as we walked in we saw how beautiful it was and how helpful the staff was. We were then upgraded to the penthouse suite which was absolutely gorgeous, comfortable, and huge with a small balcony that we thoroughly enjoyed.

We especially loved the breakfast next door and the rooftop bar half a block away that the staff suggested to us.

Room Tip: Penthouse suite is a huge two bedroom, two bathroom loft.

Casa del Horno was the final stop of our two-week stay in Panama and gave us the luxurious stay we wanted for two nights before heading back to the States. Our suite was room number 6 on the third floor on the rear of the building. From the moment we arrived, we felt pampered and spoiled and secure, which is very important in Casco Viejo. The front doors are locked at all times and you must be buzzed in. Every single staff member was friendly, professional and did everything to ensure we were happy and comfortable. Our king suite was beautiful, the decor simple and sophisticated, and the air conditioner worked beautifully. Having a fridge was a big plus and cold bottled water is complimentary. The bathroom and toiletries were perfect, and the nightly turndown service delightful. We had no problems with noise but we always travel with a sound machine just in case. There were security guards stationed at every block between Casa del Horno and Bolivar Plaza where we ate every night. The Plaza is a great area for people watching and has two restaurants we loved: Casablanca and Ego Y Narcissa. Casablanca has a large entree selection and the prices are very reasonable. You can eat inside or dine out on the plaza. EYN has fabulous desserts: don't even think about passing up the chocolate mousse. It's absolutely decadent! Also, be sure to seek out Granciemento for delicious ice cream and sorbet and the Havana Bar where you can get the best mojito I've ever had. The Teatro was closed but if you happen to get there when any of the workers are present, they will sometimes let you in so give it a try. Strolling about Casco Viejo was so much fun and we really enjoyed our lazy, perfect day in this charming part of Panama City. Casa del Horno is a treat!

Pros:
24 hour concierge service. Someone is always on duty to help out or let you in.
Complimentary cellphone
Complimentary wireless (if you don't have wireless, they will let you use their pc)
Complimentary continental breakfast served next door or in your room
Wakeup calls
Laundry/Dry Cleaning Service
Business and Secretarial Services
Customized tours and reservations
Extremely comfortable beds
Robes and slippers
Great toiletries
If you don't want to take your room key with you, they will hold it for you at the desk
In-room safes
Complimentary bottled water
Great shower
Extremely efficient and friendly customer service
Private balcony (not sure about all rooms but our suite had a wide one)
Great airconditioning
Sound system with nice selection of jazz
Very secure
Short walk to anywhere you want to go in Casco Viejo
Italian restaurant, L'Osteria next door
Spacious suites

Cons: ZERO!

Thanks to everyone at Casa del Horno for making our stay so special!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the rear of the building to avoid street noise.
