Excellant location located in the financial district. As always at Doubletree you are greeted with a warm chocolate chip cookie. Make sure that you double confirm hotel pick up from airport if setting up with hotel otherwise you may have a delay. Nice size rooms, new LCD televisions with good range of channels. Great rooftop pool, views can't be beat. Breakfaste Buffet is excellent and service is prompt and friendly. Lunch and supper also offered in full Serviice Resturant, menue in evening is somewhat limited but offers a nice selection. Wireless Internet while free is weak, poor reception and lose of single frequent, hotel did install Wireless Router in room to aleve the problem.

Room Tip: Business or vacation stopover location and price can't be beat

Check-in was friendly and efficient with the cookie offered (and accepted!).

I declined to have my bags carried to my room as I already had suffered 'pass the bag' at the airport whereby the taxi rep. hands the bag to the bag carrier (and wants a tip for the two seconds that he held the bag) then the bag carrier to the driver (another tip) and then by the driver to the hotel concierge (another tip)...This comment is against the airport not the hotel.

The room has obviously recently been renovated; it was clean tidy and spacious. The bathroom also was clean and in great condition, very well presented by room service.

The room overlooked a busy road and was located on the first floor however there was no intrusion from traffic noise (or from the church bells). The air-conditioning however was very noisy.

The Wi-Fi connection was fast and reliable. An access code was given for one device however other devices could be added upon request. Internet access is free of additional charge (as it always should be!).

It really bugs me that bottled water is not included (or at least one bottle to see you through the first night). This is only a partial rant as the mini-bar price for water was acceptable.

The coffee machine uses coffee pads however the quality was really quite good (which it should be given the location). Unfortunately, the coffee supply was not replenished through-out my stay. I hope that this was a mistake and not policy.

Room service breakfast was reasonably priced ($8.00 for a regular breakfast) but somewhat disappointing in that the 'basket of homemade bread' ended up being a couple of slices of Bimbo. The rest was fine.

The bar prices are very reasonable, around $2.00 for a Panama beer and some nuts; Panama beer is highly recommended.

Check-out was equally efficient.

Overall, I recommend this hotel for business travel; having visited the Meridien I could not see any real difference when compared to a Meridien regular room therefore would not recommend paying any more than the reasonable rate at the Doubletree.

This is a refurbished property in the city center, located across from the beautiful Iglesia Del Carmen. It has the feel of a "boutique" hotel but still shows eveidence of having been renovated. Although, it has very modern amenities and is clean with a very friendly and accomodatng staff. The restaurant serves delicious food at reasonable prices, in case you prefer to eat in. One important thing to know about Panama City... the traffic is HORRIBLE - at any hour. And that situation has been made worse by the construction of a metro train system that has the street (around the hotel) torn-up all around town.

Room Tip: avaoid one overlooking the metro construction

This is the principal reason why the traffic is “horrible” as you mentioned it.

Thought the Doubletree name would mean comfort like a US Doubletree. Wrong.
The room smelled moldy and damp. Bathroom had peeling paint from dampness. Bed was ok, but also smelled damp. The shower was nice and large with good water pressure.
Hallways were smelly, and had some large holes in the walls where it appeared they were doing maintenance on leaky water pipes. Never saw anyone actually doing any work, just signs saying "Pardon our mess" and "Wet Floor".
Downstairs resturaunt was severly overpriced. Food was less than appealing. Probably the worst food I ate while vacationing in Panama for 10 days.
At least the cookie was good.

Room Tip: we moved to the Amassador Suites for $25US less, and were much happier.
