This is a lovely place. Huge bedrooms with comfortable beds, nice timber floors, great bathroom and shower, spotless throughout and great modern furnishings throughout the lodge. Breakfast was good (eggs, toast, jam, fruit, yogurt, juice, tea and coffee) however they told us it was until 10:30am but they had already packed up when we got there at 10:10 and the staff were grumpy they had to set up again for us. The owner Irwin speaks perfect English and is super friendly, very helpful and informative. Unfortunately he was only there during one morning of our three-night stay and no other staff members speak English. One of the staff members often at reception seemed to just get frustrated at me when I couldn’t understand his Spanish and he just spoke more quickly and slightly louder. The location wasn’t bad, a safe area and about a 15 minute walk to the to restaurants. The air-conditioning worked well throughout the lodge and was definitely needed! A pool would be appreciated. Overall a good stay, I would stay again.

Baru Lodge was very modern and upscale, in a renovated private house on a side street near Via Espana and Via Brazil. Quiet at night is a big deal with me, and Baru Lodge was fine. There's an ample breakfast included in an outdoor garden area, tho' the staff there could be more smiling. The big advantage of Baru Lodge is the extremely helpful owner and front desk supervisor. I had numerous requests and favors to ask, and they couldn't do enough for me, sometimes going far beyond the extra mile. I was there only three days, but it felt like a home away from home. Just remember: this is a modest lodge, not the Hilton, maybe not even a hotel. The other reviewers may have been disappointed because they were expecting another kind of place. I've seen a lot of modest lodging in Panama and, believe me, Baru Lodge is as good as they get.

Room Tip: As always in Panama, it's good to ask for a quiet room, away from the street, which is quiet mos...

This hotel was part of a package arranged by Panama Trails. We have used their sister company Costa Rican Trails and have always been TOTALLY satisfied. This hotel however was below average. It truly is a house in a neighborhood. They only have a small fridge that has beer and water. There is a grocery store about 15 min down the street but no place to eat lunch/diner etc. They do have free wifi but it does not work in the breakfast area nor the garden. 90% of the staff spoke zero english which made it tough trying to get ideas of where to go and what to do. Good news is a cab to almost anywhere is no more the $6-$8 USD. The breakfast was pretty lame and the staff seemed annoyed and irked and generally rude. the rooms were updated as advertised. IF you stay here make sure you ask for a room in the back NOT facing the road. We stayed there at the beginning of our trip and had room 3 that backs to the garden and it was very quiet. The last night at the end when we returned we had a room on the upper floor facing the road and it sounded like we were at a bus stop all night. We did feel safe but would not recommend staying here.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Baru Lodge and we really liked it. The rooms were very modern, spacious and very clean. The service of the hotel was great, suggestions for restaurants, organisations of transfers, we could also leave some luggage for some days as we were travelling to the San Blas Islands etc. They were so friendly. The backyard of the hotel, where also breakfast is served, is very beautiful designed and very quite. The breakfast is simple but good.

This was one of the few places in Panamá who replied quickly to our e-mail inquiries. Our flight arrived at around mid night on Christmas Eve, so we were at the hotel quite late - and were greeted with a kind smile at the reception. The room was very clean and spacy, the shower huge, the water hot. But the best thing about this place is the big garden behind the house, a great place to relax and spend the evening after having walked the city for the day. The owner, Erwin, is very kind and will gladly advise you on where to go and what to see in the country. It's easy to grab a bus to the Old Town from here or by taxi, which is also only about USD 3.-
We'd definitely stay here again.
