We travel to Managua about once a month, and have found this to be by far our best... and friendliest... value for the money. While certainly not in a class with, for example, the Crown Plaza, at $30 for 2 people it offers air conditioning, cable television, and a lovely pool. The hotel, though not new, is well-maintained by a local family, and usually staffed by at least 1 English speaker. There are also less expensive rooms... with fans... for budget-constrained travelers, so you will probably encounter at least one charitable contingent staying there. For Managua, the barrio...Altagracia... is quite safe, though traveling by taxi is always a good idea...our favorite taxista, Alfredo, at 8659-0143, will be happy to help you at a fair price...just mention Don Roberto from Isla de Ometepe. By the way, although they offer decent American coffee, with cold milk by request, the cuisine leaves a lot to be desired...as does most of the restaurant food in Managua.
