We did not enter this area (I am not sure if you even can) as it was a short stop on a tour and there were police men and women marching in front of it, practicing for a parade... However it is a really beautiful building and if nothing else is worth a quick photo stop. if you can get a guide or at the very least a good book it is worth it to find out some of the background of the whole area!

“Magnificent Interior”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

The catedral was being restored, so we could only see it from outside. But, we could see the entire interior, which was magnificent. It was more beautiful than the outer look although this was also beautiful. Worth a visit. This area has things you'd like to learn on the history of Nicaragua: from its museum across, the Peace Park in front of it. Walking a little bit further towards the jetty you could find how the locals are interacting, which would be an amazement to your knowledge, I promise. But, I wouldn't suggested you to bring children here. Other reason is, it is not safe.

“Great Place for a Photo Op”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Its a great place to get a picture with the partly destroyed Cathedral in the Background. The ruins are not accessible and closed (for your safety , and date back to the 1972 Managua earthquake ), but the plaza where the Church is , is of great historic significance and within walking distance of the National Theater Ruben Dario..

“Cool looking place”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

The cathedral is a really cool building...definitely worth a visit. However good clean pictures of the building and its interior have been obstructed by propaganda and general lack of upkeep. Too bad...would love to get inside and take a look around....

“Antigua Catedral de Managua”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

The Old Cathedral of Managua or Old Cathedral of Managua, is a neoclassical building, in the city of Managua, the capital of Nicaragua that was damaged by the earthquake of 23 December 1972, without that until now have been repaired. Its facade resembles that of the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris, France. Filled with history and amazing religious paintings. Saddest thing is that these massive old paintings are being destroyed by pigeons flying in and defecating all over them while sitting on the corner of the frames. I watched as many of the poor and faithful crawled on their knees towards the alters in prayer.
