“Great airport hotel!”
Reviewed September 19, 2010

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night on 31st August 2010.

Location: The hotel is quite far out of Managua city centre (the hotel is only 1km from the airport), so this wouldnt be a good place to stay if you were planning on sightseeing in Managua itself. However, if you want a place to stay when you first fly into Managua or a place to stay before flying out (we were flying out to the Corn islands the next day), then this place is perfect. It has a bar, restaurant and pool, all of which are great, so there is no need to leave the hotel grounds. The free hotel shuttle is very handy, especially as a taxi from the airport is very expensive (given that its only a 3 minute journey).

Room: The room was lovely. We had a kingsize bed which was huge and so, so comfortable. There is cable and a/c. The shower is great and there are standard complimentary toiletries. It felt very plush and clean.

Breakfast: I followed the advice of one of the reviews on her that had recommended including breakfast in the booking...and I'm glad that we did. The breakfast buffet is fantastic- loads of choice and a variety of tastes catered for: from typical Nicaraguan breakfasts, to European cheese and cold meats, to British scrambled eggs, toast and porridge. It was all delicious and very filling.

Staff: The staff is very friendly and helpful, however a basic knowledge of some Spanish is helpful (but not essential) as not all the staff have great English.

Price: We booked via hotels.com and paid £54.50 including breakfast for two, tax and fees.

This is an excellent hotel, especially for foreigners traveling into Nicaragua. It is located 1.2 miles from the airport, and the hotel sends a professional driver to meet all guests by name in the airport space leading to baggage claim. The hotel is quite attractive and has very distinctive Latin American look and feel. Rooms are very clean, attractive, sufficiently roomy, with very nice bathrooms and comfortable beds. The pool, bar, and restaurant are all attractive, enjoyable spaces. The security details provide reassurance as to the safety of the hotel, without being obtrusive or frightening. The staff members earn very high marks, in my experience: they are very friendly, knowledgeable, and most helpful. The hotel can also link travelers up with a variety of services, including local guides who will drive (and if desired, accompany) a traveler to activities of all sorts, all for very reasonable fees. I'll certainly return to this hotel whenever traveling to Nicaragua. Even if traveling outside Managua, this is an excellent place to spend that first night after a long trip.

We stayed the evening of 13 August, having missed our afternoon Continental flight. The $72 rate (reservations made through Oro Travel) was reasonable for the very good quality of the hotel. Van service began at 5:00 a.m., which was convenient for us, the bar, restaurant more than adequate. $5 charge for internet wireless use. Very close to the airport, just a few minutes.

We stayed at Hotel Camino Real for the first and last nights of our trip in Nicaragua, in large part because of its proximity to the airport. We had planned on taking a taxi from the airport, and instead found a driver from the hotel waiting for us at customs in the airport with our name on his list. What a nice surprise!

Our room was clean and bright-- smelled vaguely of a recent paint job but only enough to give the impression of recent updates-- nothing bad. The water was hot, the AC was cold and the sheets were clean: just what a road-weary traveller wants.

The hotel's breakfast buffet, while not complimentary, was diverse and fresh. We decided to have dinner at the hotel on our last night, and it was unexpectedly good for a hotel restaurant. All the staff was helpful enough, perhaps a bit business-like but certainly still friendly.

For a late arrival or an early departure this is a great place to stay.

I stayed at Hotel Camino Real for my last night in Nicaragua because I had a 7 am flight. What a mistake. I spent $90 (before tax) when I could have spent far less and stayed at a much nicer place in Granada!

The service was outrageously slow, somewhat unaccomidating and the food was not good. Its the first place I ate at in Nicaragua where I payed US prices for my food, but it was undercooked and cold when it came out. Terrible. When I woke up in the morning I had bites all over my arms and legs. Yuck! Need I say more?

This is the second time we've stayed at this hotel, and it was much better than the first. (Our first stay was in 2005.) El Camino Real is located about 1 mile from the Managua airport which is convenient for travelers who want comfort and convenience. Adjacent to the hotel is Pharaoh's Casino, which is a major chain in Nicaragua. (We didn't go in.)

Since our first visit, the rooms have been greatly improved. We stayed in a very clean double room (two queen size beds), AC, hot water, TV, security safe. The hotel uses the magnetic card key system which limits the electricity usage when you are not in the room. This is PLUS in my book!

Free WIFI was available in the business center area, next to the lobby. We paid US $10 for WIFI access in our rooms (two laptops for $5 each).

Service at the bar and restaurant was topnotch, with very attentive waiters. Breakfast was the only meal we had, it was included with the room. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of items from cold cereal, yogurt and granola to pastries, cold cuts and fresh fruits. Hot items included bacon, scrambled eggs, an omelet station, and even rice and beans! Service again was excellent with the waiters attending to our every need.

We traveled with young children and the swimming pools provided hours of fun.

This is a great hotel for travelers going in and out of Managua via the airport.

This hotel is just up the road from the Managua airport. Very clean throughout, nice buffet in the restaurant, quiet location set back from the highway, relaxing pool, small but neat and well air conditioned guest rooms. A complimentary shuttle took us to our flight at 6 a.m.

In short, a clean and convenient choice if want to stay near the airport.
