Asked the hotel concierge(Managua Hilton Princess) for a recommendation within safe walking distance.
He gave me the name if Mares Alta. Two short blocks from the Hilton in a safe neighborhood. I was blown away. Greeted by very friendly staff. Sat in the outside covered patio...pleasant evening breeze. My server, Luis, was most attentive. But the FOOD! I had the ceviche Peruano to start--huge portion of fresh fish amazingly prepared. Could have made a meal of this. Then, the main course--"fish of the day."....a grilled Dorado, with a garlic sauce on the side, salad and rice pilaf. One of the best meals I have ever had visiting a Central or South American country. Absolutely outstanding. And a bargain, to boot : U.S. $25.00 for the meal, two bottled waters, and a cafe Americano, including service. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Managua, but certainly travelers staying at the Hilton or the Intercontinental, also walking distance.
