This is a great place to go while there is still daylight. It is a place for a lot of national tourists. There are places to park your car although a lot of the spaces are specifically allotted for restaurants. I recommend going around 4-5 while daylight and looking at all of the stands of things that are available for purchase. Then you can take some time to look at the view of San Salvador during the day as well as view the other cities and the lake. Take your time choosing a restaurant and get a good seat by the window. (I recommend a pupuseria about one block away from the tourists at the center of the Y intersection). You can watch the sun set and see the lights come on. When you are done eating go back out and see all the tents with sellers and their wares as well as snap some photos of the glimmering night lights. Enjoy!

The amount of litter and graffiti around Puerta del Diablo is disappointing since it has a lot of potential and incredible views. A few quick hikes and walks are available here, and the sunset is gorgeous. Don't go on a cloudy day since the views are what makes it worth it. Good street food around the area too.

I recently did this hike on a beautiful sunny, clear day. Its not hiking really at all, just a bunch of stairs going up the hills, and while the view was nice, it was not as impressive as I had expected given the many reviews. It was really pretty boring. If you are in El Salvador and you want nice views and great little food stands, go to Juayua on a weekend and drive the Ruta Del Flores. And if you do go out to Devil's Door, don't waste cash on a taxi, just take the number 12 bus from the city historical center, gets you there in about 20min for 35 cents....

Puerta del Diablo is a must visit site if you live in El Salvador or are spending any significant time there. It's VERY Salvadoran, especially on Sunday nights. There are a few good hikes in the little hills by the parking lot, a tiny one cable zip line, some carnival rides and of course, food stands. It's a great place to visit on a Sunday afternoon, and on your way back to San Salvador, stop in Planes for pupusas.
