This was a great find during my stay in San Salvador. We paid a local cab driver for a tour of the city and told him we wanted to buy some coffee and he took us here (which just happened to be right across the street from the Crowne Plaza, which is where we were staying). I believe Cafe Cate shares a wall or is part of the building that is Hotel Arbol de Suenos (Tree of Dreams).
They serve breakfast here and the line gets very long very quickly because their homemade pupusas are supposedly amazing (I didn't get to try them as I visited in the afternoon/evening when they were only serving coffee and pastries).
They have 4 different kinds of coffee: bourbon (gold bag), espresso (black bag), pachamanga (red bag), and the highest quality type (the name escapes me - silver bag).
The prices vary between $5.50 lb to $9.00 lb. I had an espresso while I was there and it was rich and delicious and about the smoothest espresso I've ever had. I'm told that the local farmer brings his beans here directly, and they roast on site. Staff is polite and very happy to get you whatever you're looking for; they offered to start roasting more coffee 10 minutes before closing because we were looking for one they had just run out of.
