A wonderful place to remember the Archbishop of San Salvador, there was killed by the former dictators in El Salvador. The atmosphere is just wonderful.

If you have an understanding of the recent history of El Salvador, then you must visit this historical site at the University of Central America (UCA). I would not call it an 'attraction' though, since it marks a very dark part of Salvadoran history.

It does not take long to walk through this memorial to massacred priests and nuns - there are only two rooms really, the memorial to the martyrs and a classroom with photo albums. But its size says nothing of the impact!
The memorial contains many personal articles of those murdered, and the photo albums show, very graphically, the scene when police got there the next day. As you are walking through you are very much aware that you are in a place that was covered in blood, on floors where pieces of brain were lain, past walls once covered in bullet holes.
The people murdered supported the revolution and workers rights publicly, and were murdered by the army for that. Monsenor Romero is on the list to receive sainthood.

The center is on campus of Universidad CentroAmericano, and is free to all.

The Monseñor Romero Center includes a museum--Sala de Mártires-dedicated to certain, primarily religious, victims of the civil war (1980-92).

There was nothing that I disliked about this place. We paid $0.50 to park our car on campus. This university is beautiful. I learned a lot about the Martyrs and they just finished a highway in honor of Romero.

I agree with another visitor, you absolutely need to know a lot of academic Spanish to understand the tour and to read the Museum artifacts. This museum is a very neat way to learn about Salvadorian history, in an authentic setting. I was so blown away that these events happened as recently as 1989.
