“Best hotel hands down”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

I can't imagine why anyone would bother to choose any other hotel in San Salvador. Casa ILB is simply the best, certainly one of the finest hotel experiences I've ever had in any country. My 14-year-old son and I stayed here for one night on our way home after staying at the Decameron (not a place I would ever choose or go to again but we were there for a sporting event), and I am so thankful that we had a chance to experience it. As a single, very American-looking woman traveling with a child, I had concerns, but several pre-visit email exchanges with Rodolfo helped to ease my fears and assure me that what we had planned could be done with confidence in our safety. Our stay was over a Sunday, so we did not get the opportunity to try the restaurant, but Rodolfo greeted us and helped us finalize our plans for the day and restaurant arrangements for the night at La Pampa overlooking the city and the volcano. We were there for Rodolfo's final day at Casa ILB. That is a devastating loss for the hotel, because he was definitely a part of making the entire experience superior, but he promises that the new manager, Samaria, will continue the excellence in service. Certainly, all the staff we met were wonderful. Our taxi had to pick us up at 5a on Monday, so the housekeeper brought us fresh fruit and yogurt to store in our mini-bar so we had something to eat before we left, and the guard was up and waiting to open the gates and help us get our luggage to the car. Those kinds of personal details by all the staff, in addition to things like the apples, cookies and coffee always waiting on the terrace, make Casa ILB a place to which I will always want to return. It is a mistake to miss it. (That said, this is not a place for running and screaming children.)

My husband and I stayed here for two nights, while in El Salvador on business. We can not say enough about the hotel, staff and service we received while there. Staying at this property is an experience you will not receive at a chain hotel in the area. Beautifully remodeled, amazing art and an outstanding restaurant. The GM Rodolfo is so friendly, accommodating and helpful. I stayed back at the hotel while my husband left and I was checked on in the lounge area numerous times. Offered coffee, water and anything else I might need. Breakfast is included in the morning and sitting outside on the charming terrace was a pleasant way to start they day. They will even make you eggs in addition to the breakfast table. Our flight the next day required us to leave prior to the start time of the breakfast. However, upon exiting our room coffee was awaiting us and an offer to make us breakfast sandwiches boxed to go was made available. The price of this hotel appears expensive if you compare it to others in the area but so inexpensive in comparison to other parts of the world. Not too mention the level of sophistication that it provides is priceless. Don't think twice about booking this hotel when in El Salvador! It's a perfect Gem in the City!

Today June 27, 2013 my wife and I stopped by the Hotel to be considered for our next visit to the city. We met Rodolfo one of the best, if not the best manager that I have met in a long time. Rodolfo not only took his time to show us around the property but also recommended the restaurant.

We fell in LIKE (we do not love things) of the property and the grounds, the art work around the hotel is to our liking, the house is as if you go back in time in an old type ranch. We are going to stay there in the next couple of weeks.

The Restaurant is connected to the hotel, the main dining area is a terrace open to the manicured lawn this makes the restaurant feel outdoors. The waiters are attentive and very focus on details. My wife ordered the penne pasta with pomodoro sauce and I had the raviolli with olive oil and garlic. My choice was of good taste, but I had to try the Penne pasta (for reviews only) and soon found out that I had made a mistake, the pomodoro sauce is one of the best that I have found in El Salvador. The bill for lunch was close to $30.00 including drinks.

Try this restaurant but always asked for Rodolfo a great manager who believes in the product that he represents , but a better person who is funny and well liked.

Until the next time...........

Room Tip: Room #5 has a view to the patio.

WHAT A DELIGHT!! It was the perfect way to finish our two week vacation in El Salvador. Casa ILB, our third and final stop. They were able to accomodate us last minute. From the moment we drove into the large circular courtyard we knew we were in for a pleasant experience.
As we walked into the lobby we were directed to double doors that lead to the boutique hotel living room area which is separated from the restaurant. We arrived a couple of hours before check in and were feeling alittle bit hungry and needed to relax. Roberto, the owner warmly welcomed us and invited us to have some lunch in his restaurant Buongustaio while they finished preparing our room. While having lunch, Roberto thoughtfully gave us our room keys and said, "this is so that you have the idea that your room is ready" It sounded better in spanish! What a charming man! Immediately, thereafter his staff advised us that our room was ready.

Buongustaio Restaurant:
The restaurant sits in the inner space of the open air area overlooking a lush green garden. Desiring a light lunch we ordered a refreshing italian bocconcini salad, tiramisu and Americano coffee as we enjoyed the breezy view of the well maintained tropical garden. We observed that the restaurant was always filled with well to do local Salvadoreans.
We regret not being able to enjoy a full course meal at Buongustaio, However, when our family and friends came to visit us one evening they were warmly welcomed by the staff and we entertained them with drinks at the restaurant bar. If you enjoy gin and tonic be prepared for a variety of flavoured gins and garnishes. A delight for me since it is one of my all time favourite drinks. Thank you Roberto and Rodolfo! In the mornings, in the separate hotel living room area, a small buffett of breakfast was laid out which consisted of croissants, cold cuts, muffins, toast, marmalade, as well, they prepared fresh ommelletes or eggs any style. Coffee, tea, Espresso, cappuccino's. My husband was at home! We ate our breakfast in the outdoor patio in the hotel area overlooking a peaceful garden. Too they had a perfect playlist every day. Excellent ambiance!!

Our room Suite 5: Sophistication! A vision of minimalism, colour and design! Ample room , walk-in organized closet, separate enclosed shower with rain shower head and privy. Wonderfully soft frette bed linens conveyed the feeling of home. We got a sneak view of some of the rooms and quite frankly, travellers will be quite content in any room. For Canadians and Americans who are used to paying $140.00 pn. for a standard room hotel stay, their rate is quite acceptable! You will not be disappointed. Keep in mind prices could be subject to change.

We would like to thank Rodolfo, hotel manager. Also, a charming, kind man. Most of all we would like to thank Roberto for an absolute wonderfull gift (Gran Regalazo) of " San Salvador, El esplendor de una gran ciudad ." We look forward to having dinner at Buongustaio during our next visit to this marvelous country. This property is close to all major shopping centres, restaurants, sights. The hotel will arrange for reliable, safe, taxi service.

Best Regards

Room Tip: Any room at Casa Ilb will satisfy the needs of any traveller.

We spent our first night after landing in el Salvador here. Very quiet and peaceful. Huge modern clean all white rooms. Management very friendly. The restaurant at the hotel we heard from a number of sources is supposed to be fantastic. We landed too late to try it out but it looked very busy and it was filled with rich local people all looking like they were extremely satisfied with things. My only hesitation was that the price of the room in relation to the other hotels in el Salvador seemed a bit expensive.

With only 5 room ilB is very quiet and peaceful. The hotel is separated from the restaurant by the lobby so it feels completely separated. I stayed in room 1 which I believe is the largest and it was perhaps the larges hotel room I've ever had. Very nice furnishings and bathroom. In the middle of the public area is a sitting area with comfortable chairs and couches. The terrace is off the sitting area with 24 hr espresso. The yard is nice to look at with lush green grass. The restaurant also has a yard, but they are not connected. Continental breakfast was very good and the wifi worked perfectly.

Skip the big hotel chains and book this home that was converted into an upscale boutique hotel. It has a quiet garden and elegant design that help you relax. Use this hotel and San Salvador as a base to travel around the country on day trips.

Booking
It's not easy to book this place. Find the email address and email Linda. It's worth it and they're reliable.

Location
It's in the zona rosa which is an upscale section of town. It's about a 15 minute drive to the old city. It's hard to find so print out a map or bring your gps. There is a door with a small sign. Knock on the door and it will open a quiet world of comfort.

Entry
The doorman opens the door and can help you with your luggage, but they're pretty relaxed. There's parking to the side and taxis are easy to get -- they call for you. There's no check in desk so the doormen can get someone if you need to ask a question.

Public Areas
There's a small but artful lobby. Then you entry a large lounge area that opens into a courtyard seating area.

Rooms
There are six or so rooms along a hallway. Rooms are very large with a living room, large bathroom and an king size bed. There's a 50-60 inch big screen TV and aircon.

Breakfast
It's included. Continental breakfast on the courtyard. It's a selection of pastries, fruit, yogurt, coffee, etc. Nice to relax in a green, quiet space.

Dinner
The Italian restaurant connected to the hotel is one of the best restaurants in El Salvador. Great food and you don't have to drive.

Service
Excellent. Everyone took care of us from housekeeping to the doormen to the waiters. Special thanks to Tita for arranging everything.
