“The God Seed: 25 minutes was not enough”

The story of this artist and how he has helped so many of his fellow El Salvadorians is very interesting. He and his artisans spent over a year putting a beautiful facade on the main cathedral downtown, only to have another Archbishop remove it later. The shop is full of delightfully painted items from $1 & up book marks, linens, ceramics, children's items, lithographs to $3000 original paintings. My husband & I walked in and immediately fell in love with the same painting. We bought it after making arrangements for the shipping two weeks later when we returned home. It was carefully packed and arrived in pristine condition. My only regret was not buying more gift items. Check out the website to see if you like the bright primitive style, but be aware there is much more in store.

“Wonderful as always!”
Reviewed November 13, 2013 via mobile

Been coming to El Salvador since 1994 and have always loved Fernando Llort's art. Had a nice long conversation with his son today about the tragic removal of his tiles from the facade of the cathedral, so sad. All because of politics. The greatest treat this time was meeting the man himself, shaking his hand and having the opportunity to tell him how much I admire his work.

“Llort Visited”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

I have been to the Arbol de Dios several times during the years I have visited El Salvador. It is a gift shop and gallery featuring many of the works of Fernando Llort as well as gifts based on his designs. Many of the gifts are unique and quite expensive, but there are items for those on a smaller budget as well. Works of Llort are on display in a gallery in the same building as the gift shop and show why he is the most famous of Salvadoran artists. One can also view the design he created for the entrance to the Cathedral in San Salvador and which was torn off and destroyed at the direction of church officials several years ago, causing an uproar in El Salvador and among Llort lovers in the world. El Salvador is a beautiful country with many "must see" attractions. Arbol de Dios should be on your list of those in the city of San Salvador.

“Phenomenal”
Reviewed March 4, 2012

El Salvador has such a bad reputation and thank god I'm a rebellious person who doesn't buy into the fear tactics of the west! Full of volcanos, gorgeous landscapes, super green vegetation that would make many countries jealous, black sand beaches, delicious and inexpensive lobster- el Salvador was a blast!
It helped that we hired an incredible salvadorenan tour guide named," MAC" from Nahuat tours that drove our 4 wheel drive and was a walking encyclopedia! We drove throu bad neighborhoods passing them and were very safe greeted with friendly people everywhere we went! He definitely enriched our trip 100 fold!! We would have missed to understand the history and nature that he provided so easily yo us!

The only disappointment was driving to la Palma up north. The people at the head museum were very rude and not at all worth the 3 hour trip from the beach up! Don't bother with la Palma!

Suchitoto was a personal favorite as we're the urban cities San Miguel and San Vicente !!
Incredible wealth is apparent in the American sections and poverty in others but the people are very humble and not begging like in India!

Definitely el Salvador is ready for tourism but if u want a holiday to go a gorgeous country without tourists on every corner like Thailand this is it!!
