“Five stars, Great location”
Reviewed January 17, 2014 via mobile

It has a great location near to the Central Square (walking distance @ 4 blocks), but at the same time, central for business requirements. Service is great (people is very nice), and on top of that, asian restaurant wthin the hotel is very good (although there are lots of different options in town). If you need to work out it has a good gym.

I had a very enjoyable 4-day stay in this hotel in November. It's ideally located near the large churches, which are a huge tourist draw, and is a beautiful facility.

The hotel was beautifully appointed and the room was really big and comfortable. Really high standards - a great place to stay.

The Hyatt has an excellent location and is within walking distance of several interesting sites. The rooms are well appointed and maintained. The breakfast buffet is acceptable (although not great). The food at the restaurant (also used for breakfast) is typically good, although on the expensive side compared to what is available elsewhere in Kiev. The staff at the reception desk was friendly and helpful but the staff encountered in the hallways were typically not. Saying hello or good morning to them usually did not lead to any response or even an acknowledgement that something had been said to them. The security seems well attended with at least three or four men (all in black suits) near the entrance at all times.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room that does not have an obstructed view.

I stayed here for a week in November for a work visit to the city. The hotel was the location of a conference I attended. I have never been to Kiev and had no idea what to expect of the city or the hotel so arrived with an open mind.

Arrival at Kiev Airport was almost disappointingly simple. I even managed to take cash out of an ATM with no problems. I suppose I expected the whole arrival process to be a little more like Russia. Thankfully it was not. I grabbed a taxi from the official rank – although it seemed the arrivals hall was full of touts. A colleague of mine got the same journey from an unofficial taxi for the same price as I had – c.250 – which wasn’t too bad.

The drive in to the city is long but you really do get to see the city – even at night. The area around the hotel, the old town, is absolutely gorgeous – cobblestone streets, churches, beautiful architecture etc. Upon arrival at the hotel I was shocked to see it housed in a huge, rather ugly, glass building which was completely and utterly out of character compared to its surroundings. I have no idea how they got away with this.

Anyhow, the interior of the hotel was gorgeous. Very modern, warm and welcoming. Check-in was fast and everyone I met spoke perfect English. I was taken up to my room on the 2nd floor and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. What a great place to spend the last work trip of a really busy year.

The room was large and comfortable. There were plenty of English TV channels. The bed was large and comfortable. The whole room was spotlessly clean too. Again, I want to highlight the style and design of the hotel – it was lovely. Housekeeping seem to be around all the time and barged in on me one morning without knocking… I didn’t mind if it’s their attitude creates such high standards!

After a good night’s sleep I had the buffet breakfast. The selection they had was fantastic and the service impeccable. What I liked was that although they obviously had a huge selection, it didn’t feel as though they were wasting anything by putting things out unnecessarily, which many hotels seem to these days. I also ate in this restaurant the first evening. I had sushi – a strange choice for Kiev perhaps but it was very, very good. They had an Asian chef there (in fact a lot of the staff are international) which helped. Again in the evening, the staff were really attentive and friendly.

The location of the hotel is one of its best features. It’s right on the main square and within walking distance of cathedrals and more. There’s also a fantastic Soviet style restaurant called Spotykatch a mere 3 minute walk away which was wonderful (look it up on here – but don’t get a taxi though – the taxis outside the hotel claim everywhere is a 5 minute drive away when it probably isn’t.)

The 8th floor bar is a great place to spend a few hours – but it is pricey. The bar staff there gave me a great introduction to Ukrainian vodka, although they seemed to specialise more in Scotch whisky. There’s also a bar in the basement which was more private and apparently has occasional shisha nights.

The gym is incredible – it’s large, spacious and has top-range equipment. It’s also immaculately clean. The gym is accessible 24 hours a day by room card – although the vodka meant I didn't take advantage of that. There’s also a large pool which I didn't try.

Saying all this I think I had a very favourable corporate rate at the hotel. I think other delegates I met were spending upwards of US$500 a night which was steep – but you do get what you pay for. I loved this hotel and as I said above, after a long year with trips all over the world this was a fantastic place to end it – luxurious but contemporary and stylish.

Wow. There is a slang expression in Russian, ‘kayf’ which means harmonious perfection, poetry in motion, Nirvana (and certainly not the Seattle grunge variety). If your travels include Kiev, the Hyatt is the ultimate hotel experience. The staff is superb. They all speak English adequately (for non-Russian speakers), and they go out of their way to be helpful. When you consider that their parents’ retail hotel/restaurant experience was a lifetime of the notorious Wendy’s TV advert lampooning a Soviet fashion show (‘Swimwear!’), it makes the Kiev Hyatt experience all the more poignant. People – myself included – rarely write reviews simply to say: ‘Thank you. That was just perfect.’ This time, that’s the message.

I loved the roof bar with fantastic views over the old Square, St Sophia's Cathedral and St Michael's Monastery. Stayed here on business in October 2013. Friendly and quite informative reception staff. Bedroom large and well-equipped, restaurant OK, food eclectic - rather erratic service. Probably one of the best hotels in city and up to Hyatt standards.

I have been coming to Kiev for many years and never stayed in Hyatt. The reason for that was its radiciously high price. Unfortunatelly this is a case of Kiev and lack of real competition. This time I got some reasonable price and decided to try it out. I need to say the experience was great: excellent location, nice and very comfortable room, spacious breakfast (those staying in other hotels know that morning meal might be an adventure :-)). The service and people in the hotel are perfectly trained, very kind, smiling and helpful - this was probably the biggest surprise to me. The fitness is excellent, great work out machines, 23 m pool and it all made my morning training a nice surprise. I will try to book the hotel whenever I come back.
