The caves or catacombs work until 16.30 - so make sure you reach there at least one hour prior. There are Near Caves and Far Caves, the latter we didnt reach. The catacombs are extremely narrow, extremely hot and poorly lit, plus women and some guys (in shorts) MUST wear headscarves and sort of skirt. Better get the candle at the entrance. There are few churches, however they are not open all the time. They run according to the services held, need to check up beforehand. Ladies, dont wear high heel shoes, there's up & down hillside and stone pathways. Ladies again, when entering into the church with the service running you MUST cover your heads, there are plenty scarves being sold outside. Also they sell quite a lot of honey from all over the Ukraine. Its a little nice market operating on the holy ground. Also plenty of beggars can be spotted inside the Lavra and beyond, they speculate on compassion. Overall you need up to 4-5 hours to see most of the churches and the catacombs. Good Luck!
