Owner description: The cathedral was built over nine centuries and is a great example of Byzantine and Ukrainian Baroque architecture. The interior contains mosaics and frescoes dating back to the 11th century.

The best part of this church for me were the frescoes throughout. The climb to the top of the tower is also worthwhile. Great views!

Sofia - an outstanding architectural monument of Kiev Rus and a huge museum.
The cathedral is one of the city's best known landmarks and the first patrimony on territory of Ukraine to be inscribed on the World Heritage List.

A beautiful building and a beautiful space around it with trees and benches. The site includes museums and lots of interest. Worth spending a half a day here.

A must see when in Kiev.

The cathedral proper was built in 1037. St Sophia is a museum, a church and a templet all rolled into one. Well preserved mosaics dating 1,000 years ago, sarcophaguses of Kievan princes and well preserved frescoes from Byzantine times, that is what you will see at St. Sophia.

The bell tower offers views of the city not found anywhere else and the grounds are sprinkled with multiple exhibits.

When you enter you had to decide which inside attractions you are gonna see so buy your entrance ticket accordingly.
I would recommend climbing the bell tower (actually its half the price if you just... you know talk to the security employee in front of the stairs..)
sight from above is definitely worth seeing.
Also interiors are very nice and they took precautions to prevent damaging original floor. The made some part of the walls and floors exhibiting original. We came across a local bard that was singing in the garden with local instruments just to spread the culture (but yes you can give tip if you want..)
