Owner description: The cathedral was built over nine centuries and is a great example of Byzantine and Ukrainian Baroque architecture. The interior contains mosaics and frescoes dating back to the 11th century.

The old and rather simply white-painted cathedral is a must to see if you are looking for the orthodox church/slavonic heritage monuments.

After seeing the Lavra, St. Andrews, St. Michael, I have to say that St. Sophia's Cathedral was my favorite. Unfortunately, photos not allowed and they don't have any really good post cards. so buy the little book.

Saint Sofia's Cathedral is a must see while you are in Kiev! It is a beautiful piece of architecture filled with lots of history...with it's striking spires and golden dome, and beautiful iconography. This is a travel photographers dream. Don't miss out on this site...it is one of the must does!

Great attraction - always nice to see old places with real life in them. Easy to access from centre of the city.

It is a different feeling as an American to stand in such a beautiful building, built in the year 1199.

Built by Byzantine craftsmen for Prince Yaroslav "the Wise" it is so very beautiful and well kept by the Ukrainian people.
