Don't miss this heritage site when in the city....very beautiful, and worth the time to see! certainly one of the quintessential landmarks that make Kyiv so very unique.

The cathedral bell tower is a wonderful place to take photos from Kiev. It is 76m high and windows in all directions. The climbing up is tough, however.

The cathedral is merely a museum with examples of the history of the cathedral and a miniature of old Kiev. Too bad there isn't any English commentary whatsoever.

not worth the expence, every step you take - you pay to get in the coutyard - then again for the pavillion and again to get into the church and again for the museum.

Outstanding architectural ensemble in the center of Kiev, with the cathedral taking center stage. Foundations were laid at the beginning of the 11th century. Magnificent baroque belltower. Some of the mosaics and frescos inside the cathedral, which was named after the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul, date back to the 11th century. The old byzantine-looking structure has undergone quite some rebuilding. The whole complex is in excellent condition and now looks almost like a baroque inspired masterwork from a top patisseur -- although on a much grander scale. The cathedral's interior has largely been preserved in its byzantine appearance. To justify the relatively high entry fee they put on various exhibitions, which pale in comparison with the church and can be skipped if you are short on time.

The cathedral is just beautiful and the sense of history is unmistakable. This has been the heart of Kyiv and of Ukrainians for over a thousand years and even I sensed a connection to my ancestors from a milennia ago. Grounds are very peaceful and some cool exhibits are contained within.
