Interesting excursion, very big area. Nice view from the top of the hill. Only was hard to find ticket place and toilet is awful.

I was there last summer and like the exterior a lot. The story behind the castle is very interesting too. located in the very center of the city, it seldom catches the eye of a regular tourist, and therefor (maybe) is still well preserved.
Although, I expected to be able to enter the castle but for some reason everything except the courtyard was closed. When in Ukraine, you never know what to expect sometimes.

Highly recommended to visit this fortress. Founded in the 19th c. this object attracts visitors by its interesting architecture. Museum has more than 17k exhibits and many of them are very intersting.

I have been in Kiev many times but did not know of the fort until I read Trip Advisor.
I have to say now , I love any thing history or military.......The fort structure is impressive and access to the ramparts is provided with good views around much of the city.
In the Museum there are items displayed from 700 BC and right through until WW1. Clearly some of the material has no relevance to the fort but is of great interest to me anyway. Very educational with lots of english for you to read
As regards the prison, it is just about 10 cells with some beds in them, straw for mattresses, the remainder does not add to so much, only a collection of ceramics claiming to represent "Triploi "culture that I suspect are from very modern times.
But all in all well worth the effort and you need an hour or 90 minutes in here

We visited the fort hoping it might be something special, but unfortunately there is not a lot to see. There is some English and entry is only a few bucks, but the exhibits are not terribly interesting and the fort itself is not much to look at. Exhibits include a small section on the prison (a few cells outfitted, kind of neat) and a bit of history on the city (most interesting part was an overlay of the forts on the city as it stands now). The fort itself does not offer great views, as it is in a pretty built up area. Hours are 8am - 6pm. We got there by walking all the way from the WW2 museum, about 45 min (do not recommend doing that).
