Nice location, very central with walking distances from most of the best visiting tips in KIev. The rest is simply embarrassing for a 4-star hotels. Rooms are large but with cold athmosphere, basic furniture, synthetic carpet from the 70's, incredible small bathroom with old bathtub, cleanless is just more then an option. Service makes you feel being in an old film from the communism era. Kiev is a such nice city and Ukrainians are so lovely that do not deserve an hotel like this.

Staff rude, arrogant, rooms old, did not give several messages, said never received any when confirmed that friends called. Staff yell at you when you do not follow their russian rules. Checked out early and would never go there again. The worst experience I have ever experienced at a hotel. Definitely not a 3 star hotel, more like a 1 star away. The only thing food about the place is the location but the area is scary and dangerous for americans for the people of Kiev defintetly do not like americans. Stay away and book anywhere else. Moved to a nice place on the west bank and the staff spoke english and were very polite and courteous.

Room Tip: Try any other hotel!!

I stayed 9 nights in Hotel ukraine, and couldn't really fault it. Its situated in the perfect location for someone who hasn't been to kiev before and is there to see some of the many attraction on offer.... Its right on Independent square and is a short walk to a lot of tourist attractions. It is on a hill, and Kiev its self is rather hilly, so be prepared to walk up and down the hill a lot.

The staff from check in your friendly and no fuss. as well with check out. While during my stay i found the ladies this have on each level helpful if needed. There is a guard in the main entrance, checking everyone coming and going, to westerners this may seem a little over the top, but I see it rules being hard to break from soviet times.

The rooms where huge and the bed just as big. It was clean, and maybe a little dated, but all in all it served its purpose.. I was lucky enough to be on the 7th floor with full view of independent square, great for a photo here and there...
One thing that i found with all ukraine hotels is the water temperature was always only luke warm, not an issue just an observation....

I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again in a flash. The location of this hotels sells it if nothing else does....

Room Tip: ask for a view facing independent square.... Beautiful view....

Me and my friends stayed here for the quarter finals for Euro 2012 for 2 days. The only good thing about the hotel is its location. It was undoubtedly the best location for the matches as the fan zone was just 100 meters away and even if there are no matches, the location is surely unbeatable.
The rooms and service leave a lot to be desired. The service levels are poor except for the lobby bar. The room service and cleaning services are awful. The guards near the elevator are always looking at people suspiciously and I did see some person being questioned even though he was with his wife as they are always looking at suspicious girls going to the rooms with guests. It was absolutely bizarre and inhospitable.
The curtains in the room do not protect you from the sunlight at all and hence an eye mask is a must. The bathrooms need to be renovated and we all found the water in the bathrooms to be a bit yellow in color so would advise drinking only bottled water.
Besides the hotel, the city of Kiev is amazing and the people were just fantastic!!! A massive thank you to the people of the city for making everything comfortable during the event!!!

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor room...

The hotel is a typical Soviet style building – ugly inside and outside. Went there for 4 days together with my girlfriend, and we chose this hotel because of the location, which is great in the heart of Kiev and none of us have been there before. We got a room with TV – and as usual in Ukraine this TV was broken :-) The tiles in the bathroom were broken and the building, as well as the room appeared somewhat worn down. I would probably choose another hotel next time I will visit Kiev, because the price was comparable with normal standard hotels of good quality in the West Europe, while the standard was Eastern. However, I have traveled so much in East Europe, so I usually have a feeling of what to expect, and I was neither positively nor negatively surprised by the standards of Hotel Ukraine in Kiev. This is simply what you can expect – in fact a little bit better than what can be expected in Ukraine :-) However, the central location makes it a good base point for excursions to the many interesting sights of the beautiful city Kiev.
