“The most "visitor-friendly" Orthodox Chirch in Kyiv”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

The main Ukrainian Orthodox Chirch (Ukrainian patriarchy) in Kyiv. Built in late XIX century, mureals by prominent Russian painters (Vasnetsov among others). Great relaxing place. Cool in summers, cozy in winters because of its relatively dark candle-lit interiors. Yellow color walls on the outside and blue starry domes create a very relaxing feel when you come in, go out. A little park, benches around the cathedral to brownbag/eat your lunch, come there (don't get too loud, and nobody's feelings get hurt…) Located next to the Austrian and Belgian embassies, lots of coffee shops nearby. Great place for cool spiritual stopover on your way to the city center in summers and convernient, spiritual in all times for a prayer during e.g. a lunch break.

“My favourite cathedral in Kiev”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

I loved this cathedral, I think because it was slightly out of the way and there were no other tourists there when we were, made it quite special and serene. However the best part for me was the fact it was bright yellow with beautiful blue domes sitting on top, absolutely stunning. We were lucky to be there on a clear blue day and the pictures of the bright yellow against the bright blue are spectacular.
We were fortunate that when we visited there was some sort of small ceremony taking place. It looked like an ordination, unfortunately the significance got lost in the language barrier. It did however look very impressive and the outfits were amazing.
Would highly recommend a visit.

“Brief Visit”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We only had a couple of hours before having to take a taxi to the airport, but I'm really glad that we visited. Our trip was on Orthodox Easter Monday, so the Cathedral was being used for its true purpose - its a spectacular building from the outside, but is definitely best looking on the inside - very ornate and clearly well loved.

“Must Visit if You're by the University”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

This Cathedral is considered a little 'out of the way' by some but it's actually not. It's a tad difficult to find on your own because no one speaks English and good street maps are hard to come by.
That said, if you feel like you'd like to walk the extra couple blocks (a solid 2 blocks from the next closest tourist attraction) then it's worth it. It's right at a popular University so the area is nice and open with lots of young people walking around. This cathedral sells little religious trinkets for cheap and is decorated with beautifully intricate symbols and relics. I guess it's a little under rated by tourists because of its slightly hard to find location but totally worth the extra couple blocks if you're nearby.

To find this place, it's actually pretty simple:
Starting from metro station Universitet (there's only one exit but two escalators to get outside) from the metro, there's an underpass to cross the street directly in front of you. Go there and walk to your right. Walk for a full block straight and there it is.
Coming from another direction:
If you find yourself in front of a large red building in front of a small park with brightly painted benches (part of the university complex), there's a street to the right of the large red building (facing the building) that is wide and goes straight up. Down the center of this street there are a line of trees. Walk along this street and after 1 or 2 blocks, to your right, you'll see it.

“Out of the Way, but Beautiful”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

It's a bit of a trek to find this church (although not really that far) but definitely worth it.

It's small, but the colors are just so stunning. It's not too far from the other churches, but I'd guess it's not as touristed because of its location.

Definitely worth a detour, as its much smaller than the other churches and has some beautiful features.
