The House with Chimeras

We saw some cops guarding the entrance to the street where the house was. We came and asked them if we could go closer and they wanted to see our ID. We didn't have our passports on us but I had my Czech ID card. They called someone with my name and date of birth and then allowed us to enter the street. It was really weird as they never asked for my husband's ID. Despite not sure they would have been happy with and Aussie driving licence hahaha. We came quite close to the house, but it was still behind a fence. I believe it is open sometimes and one can take a tour, but don't know what days.

Looks like a cool haunted house, too bad getting through the police (it's right across from the presidents administration) is a real pain.

This is an incredible building, exactly as it looks in the pictures. However it is hard to access and we could only see it from the distance. Still impressive!

This building is located right in front of the president office. There is no need to right about it to the tourists, because it is unfortunately inside the limited access area since 2014. You may not come close to it without special permission. It's very pity and annoying.

It is in fact possible to visit the House with Chimeras unlike some of the reviews suggest, also for foreigners (I organized mine over primetour. The house is opposite of the presidential administration and in fact used by the president or Ukrainian politicians for some events. One has to inscribe into a tour, which is held in Ukrainian, but still you get to see the inside of the house. You are also given a short description of each room in English so you can follow what is being told. The house is of Art Nouveau style (or modernism), thus if you love to see such houses e.g. in Riga, Brussels or Barcelona, this one wouldn't disappoint you as well.

The tour itself continued to other streets in the quarter, but without any English description, thus it is possible to just leave at that point, which I did.
