The Pinchuk is easy to find -- just look for the statue head on the sidewalk outside. Good for those who like modern art, and free admission.

Walking down Khreshchatyk don`t forget to visit this gallery. It is situated in the central part of the city, close to the subway station "Khreshchatyk"
Inside of an old building you will find an impressive collection of conceptual art by famous modern artists. A part of exhibitions are changing once in a couple of months. Also the Centre has educational programs for people who wants to know more about art. You can view the collection by yourself or go on an excursion with a guide at 19:00 every day (free).
The most important fact: the exposition is free of charge, yes, yes, it is absolutely free!
No place for "ordinary" art at Pinchuck's! If you got used to framed landscapes and portraits, this place is not for you!
Also: On the top you will find a nice cafe with good view.

You have to visit the cafe on the top of the gallery. Very nice people working there. You have the best view to the city from the in glass cafe

This is a wonderful art center, free for visitors, to experience domestic and international contemporary art. My Kievan friend and I saw the China exhibit and we loved it -- a great way to spend 2 hours.

This "museum" is actually an impressive modern art collection belonging to an astronomically rich Ukrainian businessman (hence "Pinchuk"), opened free of charge to the general public, with regularly changing exhibitions and lectures on art ("ArtCentre"). I first was introduced to this place during the huge Damien Hirst exhibit in 2008, and it has become a must-visit place for me whenever I come to Kyiv ever since. There are several major names from the contemporary art scene on display, with lots of pieces that would make even the big European or American art museums jealous. If you mentally try to remove the bouncer/bodyguard-looking guards, you might even forget that you're even in Ukraine for a moment, so the view over the monumental Soviet architecture you get from the top floor, while enjoying a trendy drink in the very "2001: A Space Odyssey"-looking designer lounge bar, is almost surreal.

The fact that the museum is free opens up contemporary art to a very broad public, and although you'll mostly meet students, hipsters and tourists here, there are also quite some "regular" people visiting. And even if this art centre is often viewed as a kind of a cabinet of curiosities by the general Ukrainian public, who is less accustomed to provocative modern art than people in the West, still it's an important place for contemporary art in Ukraine and should definitely be on your to-do list when coming to Kyiv.

Introducing Ukraine to the Western museum model, there is also a gift and art book shop (Russian and some English), and on a less elevated note, a fancy free toilet, which is usually pretty clean ;)
