“Reasonably priced hotel with easy access to Downtown Kiev”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

This is a good value hotel if you get discounts. Since it is part of the Accor brand, you can expect a clean comfortable room with few frills. I had a park view room on the 3rd floor. It was clean and spacious. The hotel is a large floating building and the hallways and bathrooms reminded me of being on a ship. The bathroom is small but adequate unless you need 2 hours to get ready to go somewhere.

The best thing about this hotel besides the price is the fact that it is a 5-10 minute walk to the Hydropark Metro Station, which is on the blue line and can deliver you to downtown Kiev in 10-15 minutes. The hotel has a shuttle but it runs on the hour. In nice weather it is a good walk. Previous reviewers have commented on the Hydropark area. I would call it "seedy", but not dangerous. There are lots of people enjoying their time and yes, drinking, but nobody bothered me and there were no Panhandlers as you would find in most US cities. I walked at all times of the day and night and felt completely safe.

I did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food. Again, since you can be in the heart of Kiev within 30 minutes, why eat at the hotel.

I would stay here again and recommend this as a good place to stay

Dear Guest,
Thank You for the detailed and reasonable review. It is great to know, that You enjoyed Your staying. I am very grateful to You for refuting the previous judges regarding the Hidropark area. It is really ordinary place to have rest on the bank on the river.
As for the shuttle services, usually it goes from 7:30 a.m. till 10 p.m. behind the schedule for the guests demand. Kindly ask You to let us know when You need it while Your future visit, as we are already waiting for it.
Best regards,

If you want to get away from the big and grey main street, Bakkara is a great option. The view from the balcony is great if you remeber to order a river view. Nice room and a good breakfast. The bathrooms was though a minus. Friendly staff who spoke english. All together a very good experience for a good price.

Room Tip: Remember to order a room with riverview.

Stayed for 2 nights in this hotel. I paid 120 euro for a double room, ex . breakfast which is for Kiev a good price

Good:
Well working airconditioning
English proficiency staff & friendly front-desk staff
Clean!
Size of the room

Note: Location can be seen as reasonable. A short walk to the metro (avoid the park in the evening!!!!!!!!!!! just follow the footpath next to the road!) Nice view on the river / city, however, in the evening it is quite scary. Hotel grounds are well maintained, but just out of the area it is poorly lit, smells bad, and many drunks in the evening (mainly around the metro area!)

Bad:
- BE CAREFULL ORDERING A BEER IN THE BAR!!! I asked for a beer and they gave me, without asking some German beer which costs 67 UAH!!! Must be the most expensive beer in the world!!! They did not want to take it back!! Pure RIP-OFF!! Restaurant staff seems to be there to ripp-off people nor they are friendly! Just find another place for a drink or food!
- Breakfast: Dried out bread, limited selection of cheese / meats. Lemonade instead of orange juice. Not eatable. The only good thing was that you could get an omelete or fried egg.
- Size of bathroom: Allthough not a deal-breaker. Shower itself was OK
- Noice!! The walls are so extremely thin! You could literaly hear anything the neighbours were doing!! Trust me this is not nice!!
- Double bed has no topper, so you end up in the middle of two matrasses on a steel bar!!

Dear Guest,
Thanks a lot for finding time to comment Your accommodation at Bakkara hotel. Thank You for admitting the hotel staff, cleanliness of the room and good conditioning. At the same time, I am grateful for Your critical comments, as it is very useful to receive some from time to time. It helps to improve the level of service. All comments regarding the restaurant were passed to the restaurant director to conduct an internal investigation, the results of which I am pleased to announce to Your personal e-mail. Any way, we sincerely apologize for the fact that the level of service provided in the restaurant did not meet the high standards of service that are accepted at the hotel.
Hope to welcome You back at the hotel.

i have been several time in kiev, and never found a "european" style hotel. the most of them are sovietic style, ar so expensive you cannot afford. finally i found bakkara hotel. prices are reasonable, rooms are good and clean (not usual in kiev), personnel is ok,at the reception, the restaurant or maids.
maybe the single rooms at 0 ground are too little, but with alittlecost more you can get a double room-single use- at 1st level, more comfortale. PERSONNEL SPEAK ENGLISH!! almost unknown in many hotels in kiev, also the menu at the restaurant is in english on demand.
breakfast is very good, restaurant at evening too. the only negative point is the location, not downtow. but there is a free shuttle service to subway station, or a taxi that is very cheap, and in 10/15 minutes you are in the centre. I strongly recommend this hotel to a western visitor.

Very nice reception area wonderful rooms with wet room and balcony , on the river obviously as its a boat, it's huge and there is a lot of security for some unknown reason and not the most friendliest of security guards a bit strange?! Fantastic breakfast, and serves till 11.00am wich is great after a night in the taverns of Kiev, the strip club is downstairs and easily avoidable.receptionist speaks ok English and very helpful, got us times an prices for opera, cabs, football etc.

Dear Guest,

We appreciate very much, that You found time to share Your impressions about staying at Bakkara. It is great to know that You liked Your rooms, the breakfast and the hotel staff. In Your review You are writing about the big amount of security officers. Our hotel has the same quantity of the security guards as the normal hotel, who cares about its guests’ safety. I guess that Your feelings were mostly caused by their seriousness. I would personally ask them to be friendlier and to smile more often.
We are already waiting for Your and Your friends future visit.

Kind regards,

We were a little bit anxious while booking this hotel, but we were wrong!

It is a very nice hotel, with small, but clean and comfy rooms. You do not feel it is on a boat (not moving ;), but the views from the rooms are exceptional - sunsets on the river is so beautiful.

It is very close to the metro station, and it is 25min of foot/10min with metro to the expo centre and the city centre as well. The localisation in the park, on the river, is very nice.

Wi-fi is free and very fast, available in the room as well.

The breakfast and the food in the restaurant is really delicious. There are many vegetarian options as well - very convenient, and the breakfast buffet is nice.
Some items (e.g. a tea for 7 EUR) in the restaurant menu are expensive, but there are also nice meals for 4 EUR, so it would suit everybody.

The staff is friendly and helpful. We had some problems with reservation, but they led us to the room first and solve the problem themselves, without us waiting at the reception with all the luggage - is seems obvious, but it is not that obvious for many hotels ;) Any other problems where solved in the same, nice way.

There is a night club in the basement, but you cannot hear it or see its guests, so it is not a problem.

Definitely we will choose this hotel again while staying in Kiev.

Room Tip: Make sure to book the river view!

Dear Guest,
Accept our sincere gratitude for the positive review, which You left after staying.
Thank You for paying attention to the fact that International Exhibition Center is very closely set near the hotel. While the big exhibitions we used to have the shuttle service to the IEC and back to the hotel, which is extremely convenient for our guest.
It is important for us that You noticed our WI-Fi working properly and noted positively our staff in solving the reservation misunderstandings.
We will be glad to see You soon at Bakkara.

This three star boutique hotel is a gem sitting on the Dniper River in Kiev. The hotel has free parking but is a short walk, or taxi ride, from the Hydropark Metro Station. Whether you are looking for a romantic break, a base for exploring the city, or a lads / ladies weekend / week away this is the place for you. The hotel is a floating boat / barge with a variety of rooms from more modest sizes, we had a large suite with a balcony and river view, and up to even larger suites. Our suite was smart, modern, well appointed and very clean. All the luxuries normally expected were there including a range of toiletries, slippers and bathrobes. Ideal if you want to pamper that special person in your life.
There is an excellent restaurant with a broad menu, food we had was first class although not cheap, comparable with London prices. There is often live entertainment and it can get busy, and hence a little loud at times. If it's your cup of tea there is also a downstairs stripclub, easily avoided if this is not your taste.
The walk to the Metro station might not suit all as it can be dimly lit.
We visited in Autumn so the morning was misty but views along and across the river are spectacular.
I have no reservations in recommending this hotel, yes bathrooms are small but remember this is a floating hotel and it's a small compromise for all the plusses on offer.

Room Tip: River view is a must if your budget runs to it.

Dear Guest,
Thank You very much that You found time to share with us Your impressions about staying at Bakkara. We are happy to know that You enjoyed Your room and the restaurant. It is a pity that You did not use our shuttle bus, which would get You to the metro and back quickly and through the brightly lit area. Using the chance let me invite You to the New Year party, which will be in the Italian style. We will do our best to make Your accommodation romantic and unforgettable.
