Description: Pervak, one of the best folk Ukrainian restaurants in Kiev, and is located in the heart of the capital. It serves a wonderful range of freshly cooked dishes of Ukrainian cuisine. Pervak offers a wide range of traditional Ukrainian drinks and food which you can enjoy in either the big hall, or one of the small rooms decorated in Ukrainian style. Take a trip back in time to early 20th century Kyiv in one of restaurants in Kiev with great folk decor. The decor includes the showing of silent movies, and the restaurant itself is on the site of a famous merchant's house. A friendly staff in costumes serves up a variety of hearty Ukrainian dishes with inventive names, many interesting details wait for you here in one of the best Ukrainian restaurants. Pervak has succeeded in creating the perfect restaurant for tourists and locals alike, yet has not sacrificed its Ukrainian identity. The exterior of the building is splendid, and behind the door beckons a restaurant full of surprises, smiling faces and tasty dishes. It consists of seven distinct dining areas decorated in its own unique style. The Pervak restaurant has been tastefully designed to give you the feeling of old Kiev from a bygone era. It is quirky and fun, full of interesting ornaments, pictures and curiosities. And if you need any further distraction then the attractive waitresses dressed in frilly low cut folk costumes may well get you reaching for that extra shot of vodka. The menu is always refreshed and gladdens with its newcomers, you will feel the rich variety of tastes in one of the best restaurants in Kiev. We dearly preserve the best traditions of the Ukrainian hospitality and create a unique atmosphere of comfort and friendliness to be enjoyed by each of our visitors. Ukrainian restaurant "Pervak" is ideal for business meals with spaces available for private hire or with friends and family. We are proud to invite you to Pervak, to one of the eldest restaurants in Kiev.

Wildly over-the-top interior. Truly worth going just to marvel at the decor. But the food and service is grotesque. How can they invest in a beautiful restaurant and then offer the lousy Ukrainian service? Also you would expect a decent Chicken Kiev here but you would be mistaken, sadly.

Pros: Great moderate-price lunch place in the Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, city center: there are 3 very reasonably priced (at below 10 USD) lunch menus of 3 courses + a desert is tasty and served quickly: a salad, a soup, a main meat course, a drink and a desert.1-2 hour advance booking is preferred but you may pop in during lunch time anyway as they are quite big inside, have plenty of space: 2 and ½ floors, with lots of comfy "nooks". Décor and interiors are styled for late 19th century Kyiv hangout. It offers great atmosphere of an expensive restaurant, you have their staff waiting on you with a very little delay, while their pricing policy as regards lunches is great.
past Cons: used to be a bit "smoky" before mid-December 2012 when anti-smoking in public places law was enforced
Useful tip: take a seat at the second floor and have more "open air" as most of the restaurant is located in the convoluted basement/lower level.

It was my first real experience of a "real Ukrainian" restaurant. I went there with my girlfriend, and I have to say I loved the place. Friendly and helpful staff, willing to explain everything to a naive foreigner like me. And most important, the food was delicious. A very tasteful Borscht, tender delicious veal (stuffed with cherries, unknown to me, but very tasty) and an amazing local dessert (sweet cheese pancakes) accompanied by a decent bottle of french wine. The place also has live music, from which you always can escape if you don't like it since the restaurant offers five different rooms to sit in (but you have to call). For sure not the cheapest place, but definitely worth the price. In total a place I will visit again, which for me is the biggest compliment I can make

The old-time set-up of the restaurant is very enjoyable and gives you plenty to look at and discuss during your meal. The 'glasshouse' section in particular, with lots of vegetation, gives a very pleasant atmosphere. There is a non-smoking section.
The menu contains many rustic and traditional dishes, some of which have a historically-accurate high fat content.
The waiting staff were very efficient and it helped that they had some English.
Overall, a very enjoyable trip into the past and a chance to try national dishes.
