Staying here on a business trip i was very happy with location, but shocked by the absurd, Moscow-style room rates and other charges. Over a week's stay it was not surprisingly the hotel emptied over the weekend.
Rooms are nice enough. But not EUR300+ nice.
I received an impercetible Ambassador upgrade, i think the position of the rooms is what grades them. My colleague's un upgraded room was a clone of mine but on a lower floor.
Staff were generally helpful, though there's an awful lot of standing around doing nothing.
Unfortunately the receptionist who looked after me was the antithesis of helpful. Maybe i was just unlucky, maybe she was training: if so I hope she finds employment more suited to her temperament.
The silly prices are reflected in the bars and restaurants. Sadly quality in the restaurants does not reflect those prices.
Theres a Club lounge, but it doesn't have the buzz of the Hilton or the stylishness of the ICs in Bucharest or even Sofia. I was grateful they allowed us to try it before comitting to an upgrade for our stay.
We didnt upgrade, and chose to breakfast in a cafe 100m away. It is fortunate the nearby streets are packed with charming places to eat in return for sensible amounts of cash.
Im one of those silly types who looks for value even when the company pays. In all conscience I couldnt stay here agsin. Kiev's Holiday Inn doesnt glory in the ICs historic location, but it is extremely comfortable, employs charming front desk staff, and its a couple of dollars Uber ride from the historic centre.
The value question lowers my score from "average" for a 5-star property to an overall "poor".
