Description: Yes, Spotykach really be proud! With such care together under one cover the most famous culinary hits of the Soviet era have not for everyone. Here is what restaurant critics over the years will be called "Ukrainian cuisine of the Soviet period," and the mere process of reading the menu is wild appetite. Salad leaves traditional herring under a fur coat, Olivier, Mimosa Capital, salad with beans and a dozen names. Then begins an even more pleasant discoveries. Take, for example, herring with anchovies on potatoes with onions or perch with mushrooms, fried pancakes. Sated fangled delights metropolitan restaurants audience inevitably return to the simple joys that are certain to become trump card Spotykach.

“Amazing Dinner in Kiev”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We are winding up a 2 week river cruise in Russia with 4 days in Kiev. I looked on TA for a restaurant near our hotel, and found Spotykach which is a stone's throw from the horseman in front of St. Sophia. It sounded great!
The restaurant sits back on the street --at first I rang the bell at the building marked 16. A fellow standing in what looked like a driveway asked if we were looking for Spotykach, and when we said yes he pointed the way and gave us a 15% off coupon!
We walked down the driveway, past the outdoor dining area, and down a few stairs to the restaurant. Things started off with vodka shots and an appetizer! The restaurant is made up of several rooms, each decorated in the style of the 1960s. We looked around and took pictures, then chose our table.
The menu was in English as well as Ukrainian, and they take credit cards (not AMEX), but tips must be in cash.
The service was great, and the food delicious. The Georgian wine was fabulous just as we'd been told! My husband had borsch, we both had chicken kiev (what else?), we had two sides--mashed potatoes and creamed spinach with mushrooms, and finished with coffee and the best napoleons I've ever eaten--served with a chocolate dipping sauce. With a nice tip, the cost was 780 Ukrainian...or just under $100!
I would definitely recommend this restaurant. An unusual ambiance and fabulous food. We were there on a Sunday. If you can go on Th-Sat, they have Ukrainian bands in the garden area.

“What a hoot!”
Reviewed September 10, 2013 via mobile

Unique atmosphere! Hysterical videos which were a bit distracting. Kitschy decor. Soviet style music. A eating time machine. Friendly staff and helpful with the language barrier. Not made for a romantic dinner. Pretty good food. Not over the top expense. Reasonable value by urban capital standards. Definitely touristy. Great espresso. Skip the Napolean cake.
